I am very new to this so please explain things as simply as possible. I have my son's football games on dvd. I would like to make a highlight dvd from all the games. I have windows movie maker on my computer so I can edit the dvds. I just don't know how to copy the dvds to my computer so I can edit them with windows movie maker. Can someone please explain the process and what I need to do this?

As these are non-protected DVDs, the process is pretty simple. I use VOB2MPG to extract the mpg video/audio content out of the VOBs to a folder on my HDD. I then use Womble Mpeg Wizard to edit the footage, ready for authoring to a new disc.

Womble Mpeg Wizard is a dedicated mpeg editor, which doesn't re-encode the part of the video I haven't changed. VideoRedo is another. Both are preferable to Windows Movie Maker when working with mpeg video. VideoRedo suits people who do simple edits and are used Virtualdub. Womble is closer the Ulead Video Studio in layout.
