Don't understand this stuff. It say to download GTK so now I have gtk+-2.6 but I not sure how to install on WIN XP.

Try downloading the Windows version, instead of the linux version
http://prdownload.berlios.de/avidemux/Avidemux_2.3.0_plus_win32_installer.exeRead my blog here.

I was able to install and run this one instead avidemux_2.3_v3_win32.exe. When I opened the file it suggested that it might crash because it has H264 and is using bframe as reference. I choose not use to the safer mode because it would lost frame accuracy. As it was rebuilding the frame it crashed and error message appeared that read Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library: This apllication has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

Thanks. I think I am getting the hang of it. It's kind of cubersome. It's not as straight forward as solveigMM video splitter but I guess it does the job.

I slightly agree with branch because mkvmerge can't split exactly where I want but 9 secs longer most of the time. I need to make video-megamix from many scenes and it's impossible to make it with accuracy with mkvmerge. avidemux never worked with mkv-s for me at least (win 7 64). What about splitting mp4? because I could change the container with one go I suppose, can one split it with more precision? thx

Thread: What is the best way to split mkv files?
Are you just superficial or was it intentional to promote that crappy Trialware ($50) that doesn't split mkv? -
... I'm beginning to wonder myself.
Anyway, the GTK version is definitely for linux, not windows. There is no actual package installation for 2.6 for linux yet. You have to compile it yourself. As soon as there is proper package support for 2.6 I will be installing it. On linux.
I'm a bit confused why 2.3 was installed. The OP is working on mkv files, and avidemux 2.6 is the only one you'd want for that.
I'm leaving this thread now. The OP is either a very confused or a better than average shill ... -
I think you're confused because you don't realise the thread was started in 2007. And it appears the OP might have been referring to GTK+ 2.6, not avidemux 2.6
You can specify the maximum number of files when splitting. A value of 2 means it'll only split once. I'm not 100% sure the option was present in the GUI back in 2011, but I'm fairly sure it was. -
I've had good luck with SolveigMM AVI Trimmer + MKV and also Free Video Dub Cutter. Avidemux is a good program but I've had problems using it to cut MKV files although sometimes it works.
