I've noticed that sometimes when I play DivX files on Oppo 980 I get frozen video and if I wait for a min or so I can see no signal message on TV screen and that was it I need to shut player down and start it again... once it hits the same spot -> same thing, the only way around is to set a start time which is after that spot... kidda boring thing to do... and once it stops I can't use forward anymore...
my old Philips 5960 had kidda same issue but it did not stop and it tried to pass that spot; in some cases I had audio sync problem but I did not have to turn it off...
does anyone know maybe there is some setting I need to change or something else needs to be done...
thx

The simple answer is you need to stop trying to play crap files or using crap media. The problem lies with one or the other or both. It is not the fault of the player, based on your description of the problem, and the consistency and repeatability of fault location.

Likely a corrupt file, but may also be media related. The Oppo's are great players, but just like any other player they do have some limitations.
Start by putting the same files onto a different disc (preferably a different brand/type of disc). If the same problem occurs, then you will need to replace or try fixing the file(s).Google is your Friend -
I post this a lot. The following things may or may not be problems for Divx playback on any DVD player that supports the format. You should examine your files with Gspot to see if you have any of these settings in your encodes and try to determine if they are problems for your player. They are:
1) GMC (Global Motion Compensation). Rarely supported and if you happen to have a player that supposedly supports it, NONE have been yet found that can correctly play GMC with 3 warp points, despite various claims to support it. GMC with 1 warp point usually works, IF the player supports GMC.
2) QPel (Quarter Pixel)
3) Packed bit stream (You can unpack the bit stream without re-encoding with MPEG4Modifier)
4) Resolutions greater than 720x576
5) Video bit rates higher than 2000 Kbps. If your audio is anything except MP3, you may have to go even lower with the video bit rate to not have playback issues, even as low as 1400 or less.
Problems 1, 2, 4 and 5 can only be fixed by re-encoding to eliminate them.
