    Hello there!!!!

    Right, here we go.

I've downloaded flip for mac to watch a wmv file in quicktime.... doesn't work.
    SO!
I've tried converting it into a dvd in ffmpegx.... doesn't work.
    From this the origional file

    StarWarsIII.wmv

I end up with 2 files called

    StarWarsIII.wmv.ff.mpv
    and
    StarWarsIII.wmv.ff.ac3

I am using quicktime in high quality to decode in the menu, at 448 for the sound.

    Why won't this work??

It's happened with other files in the past not wmv's though. please help

WMVs come in a variety of versions, with and without DRM, so without knowing more about the file's codecs, it remains to be seen if it is at all possible using the regular conversion methods.

If the filesize of the .mpv or .ac3 file is very small, then the conversion may have failed. Check that.

If you let ffmpegX use QuickTime to decode, while QuickTime Player with Flip4Mac doesn't play the source file, then the conversion will likely fail.

What does ffmpegX tell about the source file's video and audio in the Summary tab (left side)?

I'm not sure what your problem is. You wanted the file converted, and it was. You have two files - a video stream and an audio stream. Now you just have to author these into a DVD. What exactly is the problem ?

Sounds like the OP did end up with the right files, and forgot in ffmpegx,
to check the box in the Options tab that says "author as DVD (Video_TS)"?

perhaps that is what is causing the confusion.

well, usually, they are converted into video _ts files automatically and (vob)
and are put into a seperate folder... when i try and play these two files VLC, Quicktime, and dvd player say that they are not video files
