I have several different dvds that I want to take certain scenes from and create a compilation dvd. Is there any freeware that will allow me to do that? I basically just want to copy and paste parts into a whole. I read the sticky that is very similar to my question, but it only addresses trial ware versions.

Should I convert from dvd to mpeg (or some other format?) then back to dvd? What would be the best free software for that? I like how the microsoft moviemaker edits and combines, but I can't get it to do exactly what I want and convert to dvd, just wmv. Help!!!!

    Thanks!

Thank you VERY much! I had dvdshrink already, but I didn't realize you could do edit out just parts, I thought you could only do entire chapters. But, it looks like from that tutorial, you still need the TMPGEnc DVD Author, which isn't free. Do I only need that if I want to create menus? What if I do want menus, is there a freeware menu creator?

    Thanks again!

If you want menus you can use guifordvdauthor, dvdstyler, dvdauthorgui but they are not as easy to use as tda.

TDA has a free trial, if you assemble your projects before hand you can then give it a try.

Yeah, I downloaded the TDA trial, but it said it would not allow you to save or load your projects, so I assumed that it would be a waste of time. Can I actually do some menus and save them during the 14 day period?

If I'm not mistaken, you don't have to save or load a project if you make the menus and the output DVD in one go, without exiting the program. You can make a created DVD with menus just fine.
