First of all let me say im a complete newbie so please bare with me.

Im trying to convert some video manuals from my work, that are in the english language audio, so that can be distribued to my colegues with portuguese subtitles.

I go the avi from the source and audio, all ok.

i made the SRT file using subtitle workshop.

Now i tried to use first, convertxto DVD, the problem is that it makes 3 or for lines of text one on top the other, (in the original i made, and need only two lines) covering great parte of the image, since that there are no controls in program, the only solution was to make the text in a font that is so small that is impossible to read.

After several attemps i gave up convertxtoDVD.

I tried to use DVD flick, witch gave me the results i wanted with the subtitles inspite of beeing very slow.

However now i have another problem, the program seams to cut the final parte of the film, that was in the original version 2:48:00 minutes in Avi, all complete.

The DVD generated by DVD flick, finishs on 2:34:00 minutes, about the same time as the last subtitle entry.

I simple can not understand this, im getting desperate, never thought making a compatible dvd, without any menus whould be so hard.

Can you guys help me please.

    Thanks in advance.

If you think what you have been through is hard, then you are really in for a shock.

Your first problem is using toys to do a man's job. Both programs, as good as they are at what they do, fall into the one-click-wonder segment of the market. They are for quickly and simply converting avi files to a DVD compliant format. They are not complete or extensive authoring tools.

If you really want to get this right, you need to learn how to correctly encode your video and audio to DVD compliant assets, then author in a decent authoring tool that supports subtitle layout. Then you will have control over what you are doing. if you keep using toys then you are basically just throwing your avi and subtitle files into a box and hoping that you get something useful.

As for the end being cut off . . did ConvertXtoDVD convert the whole video, or did it cut it off as well ? You may have a corruption in the file that is stopping encoding.

The FAT32 4GB limit maybe causes dvd flick to not convert the entire clip. How big is the dvd ? Or do you have NTFS partitions/drives?

Or else you can try yet another all-in-one tool like favc.

Thank you for your quick replies.

I just want to make a working "viewable" DVD, of a manual, i dont want to make a work of art.

I've formated the Hard Drive in NFTS, but the ConvertxtoDVD made the whole thing, it just piles up the subtitle lines into 3 or more, and it just covers the screen.

I do get to have control over the subs in dvdflick, but have that problem or taking 10 minutes off the original.

I guess i going to have to read some guides and manuals, hum.

    Thanks anyway.

Just a question, do you think that if i added a text effect in the end of the srt file.

The sort of efecct that looks like a typewrite is doing the subtitles, can make the DVD flick, to stop encoding the video, thinking that its over?

Why im asking this, is because the video is cutted by DVD Flick, exactly where the last subtitle should had started.

    Weird?

Well line up a 'The End' sub at the exact end of the vid.
