    Hi guys,

I'm trying to format a dvd-rw 4.7gb, it's coming up to 3 hours and the verification process is still running, how long should it take? I'm using a iomega super dvd.

    Thanks for your help

Try 2 minutes tops. Something is definitely wrong. Despite the claims that DVD-RW or DVD+RW discs last for multi-thousands of writes, my personal experience is that some re-writable discs go bad fairly quickly. I bought a 25 pack of Verbatim DVD+RW so when I've one go bad and refuse to format and not be easily read, I just throw it away and grab another one of the spindle. My dad had a Verbatim DVD+RW disc go crazy on him after only one write. I took a look at the disc myself and we just decided since he had 24 others (he had a 25 pack too), we might as well just throw it away. Re-writeable discs use crystals, not dyes, and sometimes it just seems to me that the crystals don't behave properly.
