Newbie here and have a question. I am going out to buy a new lcd hdtv with 1080i/720p capability. The one I am going to get, already has an ATSC/NTSC/QAM turner built-in. Knowing that, is there any reason I would need to get a dvd player or dvd recorder with a turner built-in also? I am leaning to a dvd recorder in any case so that have the ability to record from the tv if I want to. I would really appreciate your coments and suggestions. Thanks.

If you wish to record, you will need audio and video inputs.

Does your HDTV have available outputs to feed a DVD-Recorder? If not you will need get inputs in another manner. If you want to record a program other than the one you are watching - you need other inputs. If from an antenna - you need a tuner. If from the cable box you might need a tuner if no other free outputs are available.

Without more info one can't say.

Ones without tuners are the same as the ones you have in your PC but cost a lot more. You can use your PC as a dvd recorder byopvr.com

Dvd recorders are really tricky to find these days. They are kind of phased out. New ones have hdtv tuners.
