  2. There are satellite-based Internet providers, but SFAIK they use a different dish than that used for TV. There is also a required "black box" for the signal. Startup cost was around $200.00, DirecTV offers this.

In the UK Sky offer this service. The downlink is from the satellite but to uplink you need to be connected to a telephone line. You send over the telephone line and receive from the satellite.

For full both-way satellite internet access, as Nelson37 has pointed out, you need a different dish and head. The standard DVB-S LNB is receive only.

KA band LNB is the key.

  6. In france Sat2way(Com2sat) start a new adsl thru satellite service. This is the first in europe (i believe) to use the bidirectional signal up/down thru your sat dish which, until now, was reserved to professionals or the very rich dudes lol

    Starting price is 39.90€/month (up/down= 512k/128k)
    The best being: 2048k/384 k for 89,90€/month

And let's not forget the "pack"(549€) in which you can find the dish+2 LNB's (UP/DOWN)+cables+modem

Com2sat use the satellite "Hotbird 6"

I don't know if foreign people can have access to this service but like there are no RTC phones lines involved i guess...yes

    official website (in english): http://www.com2sat.com/en/defaut/home
