    Hi There,

I'm a relative newb and I'm trying to capture short (30 seconds - 1 minute) clips from movies (DVD's) so I can embed them in PowerPoint presentations at work. The file size needs to be reasonable and I can't use any non-standard codecs.

I've backed up movies before, but usually with the one-click solutions, so I'm not a total newb, but I need a fairly easy solution. Is TMpgenc DVD Author the right answer, or is there a better option?

    Thanks!!!

Dvd shrink(free) in the reauthoring mode to cut out the clip, export to vob and then convert to the vob to mpg or avi or some other format that PowerPoint support.

Videoredo and open the dvd and cut, export to mpg.

You can also use tmpgenc dvd author but it's a bit overkill for just that, you use the add dvd-video, use the builtin editor, export to a dvd and you will get a vob that you can use.

Or other methods https://forum.videohelp.com/topic323286.html (read our sticky topics)

Thanks. I thought TMpgenc DVD Author would be overkill, but I wasn't sure which of the other tools would be best. I already have DVD Shrink, so this SHOULD be easy.

  4. If you find a way to put full screen Video in a Powerpoint and play it from your computer through a projector, please let me know.

In my experience, the decoder isn't up to real speed or the size has to be very small.

I'm currently converting the Powerpoint screens to menus and creating a DVD that includes the video because any DVD player does a better job decoding the video.

I have found that while Powerpoint can support more video formats if you have the right codecs installed, the most reliable for universal and smooth playback on windows machines is WMV. You can get full screen playback, as it is just using the WMP engine, and you have far less issues on most machines. Just make sure you put the video and the presentation in the same folder if you need to transport them anywhere.

Hi. I use film clips on Powerpoint for work, but run into trouble if any of my clips have subtitles. The original IFO file subtitles disappear when converted to a suitable format for Powerpoint. This means I have to come out of my Powerpoint presentation, show my screengrab in IFO format with subtitles, then go back into the Powerpoint presentation again and carry on. This is incredibly clunky, but I've yet to find a better solution. It seems you just can't show subtitles on Powerpoint. Am I right? Thanks.
