I just bought this DVR to replace the box I am renting from my local cable company.
They offer channels past 500, with channels 500+ being HD channels.
Does this DVR only allow you to change up to channel 125????
    I need channels 500+!!!!

Would the Sony RDRHX750 have a higher channel option??
I've tried searching and no one displays enough specs to say how high the channels go.
I think i'm hooched because the manual says in the back that the tuner goes as high as channel 125, but i can't believe these products would be made like this, when higher channels exist.

    Thanks in advance

The 125 channel limit is likely based on the tuner the DVR uses which is likely limited to the analog SD channels. Channels over 100/125 are typically digital channels and HD/movie channels are usually encrypted. So you are wanting a DVR with cable card support to decrypt the channels over 125. I don't know if any exist at the moment.

We had the same problem but fixed it by recording on L1. When you go into timer recording, instead of entering a channel number, enter L1. Then autotune your t.v. for the channel that you want to record, if your cable provides this feature. Once it's autotuned to the channel that you want, which can be any channel number, the t.v. will automatically go to that channel at the pre-set time. The t.v. does not have to be on. If the t.v. is on it will automatically go to that channel and must be kept on that channel for the duration of the pre-set time, as it records whatever is showing on the t.v.. This is the only way that we've been able to get the machine to record, which is o.k. because we also record channels higher than 125.

I see no indication on the Pioneer site that the DVR-533H has a digital tuner at all.

Analog tuners can go up to 125 but channels over 78 (exceptions might be 95-99) are almost always modulated digital these days. Many cable systems are using channels below 79 for digital as well.

This box needs to be used with a digital cable box connected S-Video + audio. It won't replace a digital cable tuner.
