Is there a way to copy my Pioneer DVR-640H DVD recorder's hard drive other than creating DVD discs? I wonder if it's possible to copy my DVD recorder's hard drive to an external hard drive for back-up. Backing up to individual DVDs seems a little tedious to me.

    Thanks in advance!

That's kinda what they were designed to do. The HDD isn't meant to be for permanent storage.

There is a long post somewhere around here on upgrading the drives in Pioneer machines. Perhaps you need to have several on the go at once.

Some of the DVR's with USB support allow the user to move files from the internal HDD to an external drive and a few of those allow playback from the external drive.

As for your 640, you only option is likely to upgrade the HDD as guns1inger pointed out.
