    Hi,
I just bought dual cpu board Asus CUV4X-D, so which CPU do you recomended (price is important). Is Celeron OK for video encoding and stuff like that? I think to put 2 x Celeron 900 in my board.
Now I have AMD Thunder 1GHz.
    thnx

  2. How big is the price difference between PIII's and Celerons now? Seems like it shouldn't be much. I would go with the PIII's.

Celeron 1000 is about 100$, PIII 1000 is about 200$, it is 200$ difference for two cpus. I know that PIII have bigger and faster cache, faster FSB, but video encoding is just mathematics, right.

  4. Encoding is very FPU intensive, in which case the PIII is going to provide a non-trivial advantage. Also, don't overlook the fact that the larger cache is intimately related to the performance of the processor in respects to the execution of a majority of instructions. The speed of the FSB is not determined by the processor, but rather by the chipset on the motherboard. However, you are correct in that the PIII will work with higher speed chipsets where Celerons may not. I will stick with my recommendation for the PIII, although I would carefully shop around, since the price difference you quote seems a little high.

  5. Interesting... Which operating system are you planning to use? Better yet which editing software. I have been having fun creating VCD's and editing movies and dual processors would speed up the proceessing time.

    Give me specs.

Celeron II - 900 are not multi-cpu compatible.

The highest multi-cpu compatible Celeron was the Celron I - 533.

As far as I know only the Abit BP6 can run dual celeron.. but I might be wrong here.

You'll have to go with PIII's.
