Akamai a CDN of HD content, and they’re paving a vivid future for content providers with its HD streaming capabilities. They’re showing how impressive HD video on the web can be at www.thehdweb.com The content is presented in either 1080 or 720p, and image so clear that you watch it directly on your HDTV plasma flat screen. I was amazed by teh quality of the images.

Akamai even has a trailer up on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIufyB1CV0Q) and when you compare that to the HD content that is on www.thehdweb.com the difference is astounding. I think once people see this difference for themselves they will want most if not all of their content to be in HD

Infrastructure to handle the bandwidth required to stream HD content to the masses would probably be the next question. Some providers are already choking torrents, gaming and anything else that eats their bandwidth. This could cause a packet shaping revolution.

  3. Yes I want all content to be in 1080p HD.. sadly over a 2mb link it aint gonna happen ... maybe when 20mb-100mb is standrard, its a realistic measure of bandwidth needed. Like to see youtube handle all that.

Given YouTube's difficulty serving up video in 425 x 355 with a maximum filesize of a hundred megabytes, I think this will happen sometime between 2107 and never.

Maybe when the demands of HD video finally get to be too much, Microsoft might finally be forced to address the truly bizarre methods by which Windoze connects to the rest of the world.

The bandwidth requirements are unrealistic for a large number of Americans.
I live in one of the 10 largest metro areas in the USA and my internet connection is 6 Mbps - there's nothing higher in my area.

It's unrealistic period. 100% reliable streamed SD TV is still not here. Let's take first thing first, shall we?
