I purchased this item as a "display model" at Radio Shack a couple weeks ago. I really enjoy these features of it: the USB input jack and the memory card reader. I could get it repaired under warranty, but I doubt the manager would allow it, as the store would lose money on it as it only cost me $7.97 (plus tax) after discount. He mentioned that he would have just scrapped it if I didn't buy it.

Anyway, I have a few issues that maybe someone could help me fix. After reading the threads here, I found reference to the owner's manual online. On the radioshack.com website it wasn't found for some reason. So, thanks to the board members for the link to the owner's manual! Onto my issues, for convenience, I'll label them by number:

1.) The DVD player turns on by itself, and opens the drawer. However, the player doesn't want to read a DVD. When I press play, it attempts to read it, then the drawer ejects by itself. Is there a way to correct this either by a firmware/software upgrade or, possibly, "light" internal corrections?

2.) Is there a way to use the USB in with, say an USB out from a laptop? I read in the manual that it's only intended for USB Flash Drives, but I'm guessing that there has to be a way to "fool" the DVD player into letting a PC/Laptop USB output play video, music, or even pictures? In other words, how does the DVD player know it's a USB flash drive only?

3.) In reference to #1, is there a way to bypass the DVD player, so to let the USB or memory card reader show their contents on-screen? Moreover, I can't use the included remote to switch to USB reader or memory card reader, unless I'm missing something on the remote. I don't necessarily need the DVD player to function, for what it's worth.

Thanks in advance for all of the expert input! Hope someone knows how to help in any way possible.

    1) If the player can't recognize/play commercial discs, then there is something wrong and it needs to be repaired/replaced.

    2) No. You cannot connect it to a USB port of a PC. The player can only read from USB memory/storage devices. It can't interface with a PC.

    3) You shouldn't need to "bypass the DVD player". Standalone players that support USB devices allow you to view the USB contents regardless of whether or not a dvd is even in the player. There is usually an input selector (DVD/USB).
