I'm going to be purchasing a new home theater system (Receiver and 7 speakers w/ a sub) and will begin demoing speakers next week. I'd like to compile a DVD that has some of the best scenes in movies to demonstrate audio capabilities of speakers. OF course I'll need to preserve the 5.1 soundtrack in each of these scenes and be able to set the start/end point of the scenes I desire to use. I'm wondering:

Which scenes do you all recommend in this compilation. So far I have chosen a scene from Hero (where he cuts the bundles of wood), and a scene from Spiderman 2 where the cops shoot as Doc Oc' after the Bank Heist. What else should I consider?

    A side note:
Is there specific guide on this site that you would recommend for instructions?

You can use dvd shrink in the reauthoring to cut out clips and then also join. And preserve 5.1 soundtrack. See https://forum.videohelp.com/topic198813.html

I don't know what clips I would use though...

Thanks Baldrick. I've been checking out DVD Shrink and it seems to be a pretty simple tool. If I'm using multiple DVD's will I need to rip them to Video TS folders first? Sorry, I'm asking this before I even read the guide you've posted. I'll check it out.

Nope, DVD Shrink can rip and cut directly. But if it's a newer dvd with new dvd protection you have to use anydvd or rip the entire dvd to the hdd with dvdfabdecrypter.

I just read the guide. So this guide utilizes DVD Shrink simply to extract the desired scenes as clips and then TMPGEnc is used to compile them and author them. I'm assuming that you could use Shrink instead of TMPEnc if you didn't want to add menus...

Get the opening scene from Saving Private Ryan. Listen for the ricocheting bullets flying past. They'll give a 7.1 (5.1) system a good workout.
