    Hi to all,
Does anyone know of a simple free tool for cutting up xvid avi that will not involve re-encoding. It does NOT have to be frame accurate or even close - I have several tv show episodes in xvid format and want to get rid of the intro and credits before burning as data DVD. If i have a few seconds of the intro and of the credits along with the episode after cutting it wont bother me.
    Thanks in advance,
    Tony.

VDub, VDubMod, VDubMPEG-2. Make sure to set Video to Direct Stream Copy so it's not reencoded after you cut off the pieces.

VirtualDub. Just make sure you set it to direct stream. Cuts at key frames without reencoding. Some recent versions even has smart rendering, and allows you to cut at any frame, and just reencodes around the cut if it's not on a key frame.

Same question for me but I want to remove a section in the middle of the AVI.... not intro or outro...(I use SolveigMM AVI Trimmer for that)

As an improvised workaround, I tried using SolveigMM AVI Trimmer to clip & save the parts before & after the part I want cut out then tried to join the 2 using Xilisoft AVI MPEG Joiner... the join keeps failing...

I love the programs I mentioned above for their simplicity and quality results. Now I am looking for a "simple free tool for cutting up xvid avi that will not involve re-encoding" that I can use to snip out middle portions of an AVI video and collapsing the resulting gap in the generated output file.

I could really use a simple tool like this in my toolbox so I won't need to deal with 'improvised workarounds'.

I know it's an old thread but maybe someone can advise?

    Thanks...

  8. Doesn't vdub require acm codecs installed? I'd use avidemux cut edit avi/mkv /mant formats without re-encode. Just set Audio>Copy Video>Copy Set Container press file save as djbhdsf.avi or whatever container, and to cut press A for the start and B button for the endClick image for larger version

Thanks for the info.... I am trying avidemux. Considering that I do not want to re-encode, does it matter how I answer this? It popped up when I opened a video file.

Unpack it. It won't affect your editing or saving
