Hope this post is in the right topic...

I bought this OEM drive at Microcenter and it is ridiculously slow compared to my old Plextor. However the DVD read laser on my Plextor is DEAD--not the first time I've had a Plextor quit on me!

Anyway, how can I make this drive read faster during DVD backup with Decrypter? Please help!

your drive is a rebadged OPTIARC drive. Post your question at the NEC/OPTIARC forum at Cdfreaks.com.

make sure your drive is in DMA mode and not PIO mode. the drive itself could have the read speed locked at 3x speed which is why it rips slow. if you want a drive that can rip fast then buy a SAMSUNG or LITEON dvd burner.

Thanks for the tip... I've set the DMA bit on drives before, but for some reason I can't seem to find it now. Can you remind me?
