    Hello,

I am an IT-student and have chosen the programming of a video filter that is able to remove or restore interference artifacts from recorded video as topic for my main thesis. I have some material with the typical slow moving horizontal lines but they are quite sublte and the material is only from one camera in one setting. In order to design a helpful filter I would need more material, in the best case with different appearances and stregths of interference.

Is there a simple way to produce material like this (I have a Sony Z-1 at my disposal and maybe can use the lab of the university but they are pretty limited in equipment)?

Or does anybody who has a problem with interference want to upload a bit of material for me (e. g. via rapidshare but please keep copyrights in mind)?

Best wishes and thanks in advance,
    sylvanez

A common RF signal generator from your lab should be able to give you some of the usual RF interference patterns. Then 60Hz, or harmonics of that might be obtained from the same generator or a audio generator.

You may be able to feed them in with a RF splitter and a attenuator. Those should be common devices in most any electronics lab. The splitters and the attenuator can also both likely be purchased in a television store that also sells antenna and TV distribution equipment.

I mention this as you would get better control of the interference levels and types and have a better comparison if all your video formats were the same. And with careful notes, others would be able to duplicate your results.

I mention this as the video you obtain from others may be many different formats, MPEG-4, MPEG-1 or 2, MKV, Xvid or others, and the framerates and framesizes may differ. That would make it difficult to compare. And changing the formats would involve re-encoding which may alter the interference patterns and levels.

Thank you very much, I will try this.

But I still would be interested in some real-life problems for getting an overview on how the problem can look, possible effects etc.

So if anybody wants to share disturbed material I would be happy.
