Hey everyone, I'm a new Mac user, and I'm trying to make a backup of one of my DVDs. I have ripped the files with MacTheRipper, but now I'm looking for a program like DVDShrink to help me shrink the files. Also, I would greatly prefer if it was free like DVDShrink. Thanks.

I'm not aware of any (simple) free Mac tools that do this (but I haven't searched in a long time; perhaps others here will provide updated info). There are command-line tools for doing this in steps, but I doubt you'd put up with the complexity unless you are a *nix geek (in which case you could write your own scripts to do this).

Two GUI tools for doing this are ffmpegx (a bargain) and DVD2One (more polished than ffmpegx, but it costs more, too). I have no experience using either for this purpose (I run DVDshrink on my windows boxen), but folks posting on this forum seem to be largely satisfied with both.

Toast. It costs money, but it is SO worth it - it's a great program.

You can always use BootCamp with DVD Shrink, if you have an Intel system. Best of both worlds? Mac doesn't have many choices in certain aspects of video, and copying pre-existing DVDs is one of them.

terryj, you need to come to ripdifferent a little more often. 14i is built for Leopard.
