  1. I am a newbie and I tried using virutal dub and I was just fiddling with a video file. I must have done something because now whenever I play it out of virtual dub even after deleting and redownloading it in the top-left corner there is text like

    Audio track:

Input description 48000 Hz, stereo 128kbps mp3 (libmad)

    current input rate: 128 kbps

Please tell me how to get rid of it!

So, it happens no matter which player you use to play that AVI? It could be something that you enabled in a codec. Does it happen if you play the AVI using a player that uses its own codecs, like VLC or mplayer?

(TJohns: I was suspecting it might be ffdshow, too, but I'd never seen its OSD in action... and figured I should be sure of everything else, as well. )

That sounds like ffDShow On-Screen-Display (OSD) is enabled. If you right click on the tray icon (red for video, blue for audio I think) you should have an OSD option on the menu ... turn OFF the one that's ticked!

It sounds like ffdshow OSD, Start -> Programs -> ffdshow -> Audio decoder configuration and uncheck OSD. If you have don't have the ffdhow in the Programs menu you should see a ffa icon in the tray/notification area when you play the video, just click on it to to bring up the configuration.

    edit:I'm too slow.
