I am looking for a single program that can do the following.

    * I want to have the ability to load the following formats. AVI (Divx/Xvid/whatever), MOV, MP4, MPG, VOB (espically this), and FLV

    * I want to cut out a segment of video.

    * Convert that segment into MP4 at 720 x 480 resolution (yes I know it won't increase the quality if the source material is at a lower resolution/bitrate) so I may use it on my Sony PSP. (Yes it supports that resolution, I have the latest firmware installed 3.71)

I tried using search to find a program like this, but I don't know what search terms to input to get me the right results. So, I am now resorting to asking. Sorry. Don't say I didn't try the search first.

VirtualDub Mod should be able to do most all of that, not sure about .flv files, but it does handle VOBS and most all the rest. Alternately, try SUPER, but VDM is much more flexible. Not many all-in-one programs will do everything. You may have to use several programs to get exactly what you want. Even with VDM, I use Audacity for audio processing most times. But they are all freeware and VD or VDM have many filters and tutorials available.

I should mention that the term 'MP4' is a very broad definition, much as saying 'AVI'. It's the name of the container, not the codec or format. The codecs used determine the exact format.

    And welcome to our forums.

I think SUPER will do it,

I have used it to convert only part of a video

it has (2) timer functions available under 'other options'

one is skipping part of the video ( enter the duration of the skip in milli-seconds )

the second is convert for a set duration ( also entered in milli-seconds )

i have used these many times
