Better write to Santa now. He might run out of XP OEM preloads. Those who ask for cash may be disappointed.

The Santa's I see in front of stores usually ask me for cash.

Here are upcoming milestones for Windows XP and Vista, the new operating system launched in January.

First quarter, 2008: Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is set for release some time in the first three months of 2008.

June 30, 2008: Major PC manufacturers and retailers can now offer XP through this date. The previous cutoff was January 2008.

Jan. 30, 2009: System builders who make custom PCs can offer XP until this date.

2010: Vista's successor, "Windows 7," targeted for completion.

April 2014: Microsoft support for Windows XP scheduled to end.
7 more years of WinXP support works for me,I can wait for Windows 8 or whatever there is then.

June 2008 is the set date to end sales. Support, at least security fixes, will likely continue several more years.
