You need to reencode. Scaling down should not have much affect on any of the perceivable quality. The perceivable quality on your phone may actually increase if done properly and you scale to native resolution of the mobile phones screen.

You have to re-encode if you change the resolution.

  4. I thought though that there was an app promised to resize with no rencoding taking place, dont remember the name though.

Anyway the coalman waht do you mean by if done properly?

Mobile screen res is 320x240.So i need to downscale to tha res...

Someone also mentioned the solution, where you resize using autogk, and leave quality at 100%.will that be appropriate?

Does your phone play Divx/Xvid videos ? AutoGK only encodes using these video codecs.

I believe what coalman is saying is that if you use an appropiate codec and bitrate, reducing the resolution can give the perception of increased quality because the results may appear sharper.

What codec does your phone play ?

  6. everything.xvid,divx,mp4,wmv.

Thing is that it has a 303mhz arm-11 processor and when i play hdtv rip files at original resolution sound becomes jerky and asynchronous.

So i need to test the files at th 320x240 res.
