For some stupid reason i can't get into a website I visited hundreds of times before.
I am on verizon yahoo DSL and last week I was able to get on but now this week I can't connect, the site is www.ftaforall.net ,
I tried deleting cookies , erasing all possibilities and I still can't get on and the site is there because i asked my friends to connect and they can get in.

I can get in, even with cookies blocked. Are you using a bookmark and have you tried typing it in directly? Do you have an active Host file? What do you get when you try?

    Edit:Actual IP is 74.86.136.149

Which browser are you using? Have you tried using a different browser, to see if you can access the site in that browser?

Have you installed any browser extensions, plugins or helpers in the previous week? Or, any internet-related software, including anti-spyware programs/updates that might be interfering with your ability to access the site?

Are you sure the site hasn't been blocked in your hosts file?

What happens if you open a DOS/command window and enter the following?
    ping www.ftaforall.net

(try pinging it, tracert, and maybe connect to the actual ip number) Please explain what that means

This is what I get when it tries to enter.

I have tried ie and firefox ,with both dialup and dsl.

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

    Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
    The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

    Server not found

Firefox can't find the server at www.ftaforall.net.

    * Check the address for typing errors such as
    ww.example.com instead of
    www.example.com

    * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
    connection.

    * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Does the address window still show the IP address or does it switch to ftaforall.net (or anything else)?

Edit: Also watch the status bar in Firefox when you click to go to the IP address. Does it mention ftaforall.net at any time?

try resetting the network. right click on my network connections/properties/right click on local area connection/click on repair.

to ping & tracert - click start/run/ type cmd - to bring up dos box. type ping and then the url of what you want to ping. or type tracert and the url to get the actual route your ping is taking with hops shown.

    report back what is displayed.

You didn't happen to post anything on the site that might have caused a moderator to block you did you? One way to make sure that your system and service provider are OK is to use an anonymizer service. These prevent a web site from seeing your IP address. If you can access the site with one of these, you are probably being blocked for some reason. Several anonymizer service are shown on this web page. http://www.livinginternet.com/i/is_anon_sites.htm

  22. Could be your ISP's DNS servers are screwed. These convert the named address to the IP address.

Try 'tracert 74.86.136.149' instead (this 'bypasses' the DNS).

  24. There should be more - the tracert will end with "Trace complete."

You can send the output of the command to a text file instead of the screen - this will ensure you can copy the whole thing. Use:

    tracert 74.86.136.149 >trace.txt

You won't see anything happening - just wait for the prompt to come back in the DOS box (i.e., the C:\....>). Then open the text file (use My Computer to go to the place where the file is. It will be the same folder as shown in the prompt, e.g., C:\Documents and Settings\Lou). You can then just copy and post the text here.

What tracert does is trace the route (hence the name) that the data to and from the server have to take - i.e., all the computers used along the way to get the info from the destination to your computer. The information shows how long it takes for the data to get there (e.g., 66 milliseconds).

When you try tracert with the name (www.ftaforall.net), your ISP has to work out where that address points to in x.x.x.x format. It uses a database that is updated regularly (every 24hrs or so). If it can't find the address then it can't tell your PC where to go. Hence, you get "server unreachable" or "server unknown" etc. Other people with different ISPs won't have the same problem which is why everyone is saying that they can reach it. If you can't reach it with the x.x.x.x then something is very wrong.

When I ran the tracert to the x.x.x.x address, I ended up at zipservers.com - this is the company that hosts ftaforall.net. So, try opening http://zipservers.com. If it works and ftaforall.net still doesn't (they have the same IP address), then ftaforall.net is probably blocking you.

the 10.32.160.1 ip given for your computer indicates you are probably behind a router/firewall in nyc. most likely it is blocking the connection.

a second place to look to is the hosts file on your computer, as the last 2 hops to ftaforall are missing from the tracert. you get to dallas tx, but not to a couple towns over.

Those two addresses are probably just routers and don't have any http code, so that response, (or lack thereof), is normal. Do you have a gateway/router/firewall? Your IP address is a non-public address, but it's not in the normal default range for any of the routers I've encountered.
I suspect that it's being assigned by Yahoo/Verizon. I have troubleshot 2 other Yahoo DSL connections (although these were provided by ATT), and they were also assigning non-public IP addresses. This setup will allow Yahoo to share it's assigned public addresses across multiple members, so you may be getting penalized for the actions of another. Try going to GRC.com's Shields UP! site and see what IP address they report you as. This should be the public address that ftaforall.net sees. Try turning off your internet modem for a while (overnight) and then go to GRC.com the next day and check your ip address again. If it's the same you will probably have to contact Verizon/Yahoo and file a complaint.

One other thing you should do is to go to a friend's house where it works and try to log in from there. If you can log in, then you haven't been banned, just your IP address. PM the admin/mod and explain the situation and give them the public IP that you got from GRC.com. They should be able to determine if/why that IP address is being blocked and may be able/willing to unblock it.

Here is a follow up , I contacted verizon and they corrected the problem, it seems that their software won't allow users to enter some websites which is what was causing the problems.
