Playing multichannel WMV on a stereo setup?

How is it done? I have a few WMV HD movies laying around, all of which have 6-channel sound and all of which gives me garbled audio output. I have the K-Lite Mega pack installed, which works well, but I've no idea how to get sound out of these files - or if it can be done, for that sake.

I'd be really grateful if somebody here can give some info and pointers.

5.1 WMA works fine if I use WMP 10 or 11 and my internal crappy sound card.

Are you connecting the audio card to a receiver or something?
Can you identify the audio in the wmv using MediaInfo? It may not be wma 5.1.
