    Hi everyone,

I have read that using VOB2MPG is so easy to use but I have downloaded it and I can't even open it I keep getting an error message that says "The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software?" When I click "run software" a message comes up saying that the program has been installed. When I double click to open the program the SAME message comes up!

I need to convert a video from VOB to MPG so that I can view and edit in Windows Movie Maker.

    Can anyone PLEEEEZE help??

Don't panic. You have installed the required .net programs? XP may complain that the program is not 'MS approved' or similar. Not unusual. Make sure you have downloaded the VOB2MPG file from a reputable source. Windows whines a bit when you don't have their 'official' approval, but if you got the file from the author's recommended sources, nothing really to worry about.

The Program is very simple. It just extracts the MPEG-2 files that already exists in the VOBs within a VIDEO_TS folder to one large MPEG-2 file.

Once you have your large MPEG file, most any MPEG editor can work with it. Freeware, Cuttermaran, easier, payware like MPG-VCR or VideoReDo for cheap. Or use other editors.

And welcome to our forums. Lots of info here. Just ask.

Don't think me rude, but are you double-clicking the same icon that you clicked to install the software ?

Good point, guns1inger, I have seen some 'weirdness' in the past with the program. The icon to start the actual program should look like a soccer ball, at least in my version.

Indeed - best to run from the programs menu:

    SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.

Thanks everyone! I repaired the .NET 2.0 program and opened VOB2MPG through the soccer ball and it worked. However my next problem is the file itself. I copied the video cliped from the DVD to my hard drive but it does not open nor does the VOB2MPG detect it. The video clip has the Windows Media logo on it and is definitely a VOB file. When I saved it to my hard drive from the DVD I clicked on "'copy" then "paste" in my hard drive folder. Seems something went wrong, any ideas?

Thanks again, you guys are very helpful![/size]

You do have a whole complete VIDEO_TS folder to feed to VOB2MPG? I don't know that it will work with just a solitary VOB file.

But there is a work around if you just have a VOB file. Rename the VOB extension to .mpg and you should be able to open it with most MPEG editors. That's not usually the best method as it may not give you the subtitles and alternate languages. But if you just want the video, that usually works.

BTW, if you haven't done this, go to any folder, 'Tools>Folder Options>View' and uncheck 'Hide extensions for known filetypes'. Otherwise you will not see the true extensions.

Thank you, THANK YOU!!! I was able to change the file name and now it opens in Media Player. The next step for me is editing. I had downloaded SmartFTP. Any suggestions? I am just trying to follow the steps for transfering the file to SmartFTP because I also have to put it in FTBable form - never have done this before.

Here I am again. I tried to import the video into Movie Maker so that I could edit and the following message came up "VIDEO_TS.MPEG could not be imported. The selected file is not valid or is corrupted" What now? How am I going to be able to edit? Thanks again.

WMM can be problematic at times. You might try a different editor. Maybe the freeware MPEG StreamClip or Cuttermaran or Mpg2Cut2 for editing the MPEGs?

Thanks again. I have now downloaded Cuttermaran. It seems easy to use....however, I think I never succeeded at changing the file name from VOB to MPG. Now nothing opens it it says that the file may be corrupted. I don't know what to do anymore. The VOB2MPG program won't work to do the true conversion and me renaming the extension of the file did not work either. Can I call anyone? My deadline is up today. I so much appreciate all the guidance thus far.

I saved the folder from the DVD to the hard drive instead of just the clip that I wanted to edit.
I used the VOB2MPG program to conver to MPG
I used MPG2CUT2 program to edit
I edited and saved to the hard drive!!

Sounds simple now but it took me days of trial and error

Hi, you seems to used the VOB2MPG, so could you show me something... Does it give for you a best video format quality? And what is the true format of a DVD? Thanks!
