Anyone know why you need the MS net framework to run this? You need to be online as well.
Are your rips being tracked. I didnt have to do this for the ipod classic conversions.

I do know you can do it offline per the site but am curious about this new setup.

.Net framework is just a way for applications to share common components/files without each program having to install it's own copy/version.

The online portion is a feature of the tool. From the product specs "When combined with Videora, our video search and download program, Videora iPod Converter + Videora allows you to download, convert and copy video to your iPod automatically, using BitTorrent and RSS technology"

The .NET Framework is much more than that. The common components part is one aspect associated with in - in fact, it is separate from .NET ("side by side" or SxS assemblies).

The .NET Framework makes it much easier and quicker for developers to create new applications - it provides more straightforward programming for window components (buttons, scroll bars etc), easier network programming and much more. A simple Windows utility program in C++ may take a day to pull together with most of the grunt work being the GUI. .NET languages allow you to do it in perhaps an hour or less. The program also doesn't need to keep track of a lot of the mundane stuff that can normally crash a program if overlooked. Instead, the OS - via the .NET Framework and the "common language runtime" (CLR) - does the background housekeeping etc.

Whether the software use .NET Framework or not, many programs will install shared components in the new SxS way.

It's more appropriate to think of the .NET Framework as an extension to the operating system.

Incidentally, it is possible to install a program that claims to require the .NET Framework even though it doesn't! There is a bug in Visual Studio that can sometimes incorrectly create the installer with the "needs .NET Framework" flag set. This happened with one of our products - a DirectShow decoder.....

One way to describe .NET framework is a library of functions. Applications can call these functions when running. There are a few conspiracy theorists who suffer from PDD (Personality Deficit Disorder) who describe .NET as something from the evil empire. Some of these jokers think the earth is still flat. Ignore them; they are just after attention.

The creators of .NET Framework (and the creators of Windows Vista
as well) are not evil at all; just like any other bloatware maker,
they are simply very stupid, too lazy, or both.

Thank you for illustrating my point for all to see.
