play mkv file with external ac3 audio???

I have an mkv file thats in russian, but the download also came with an english ac3 file besides. How can i play this with the english?
I use vlc player, and it wont let me switch audio

You could add the ac3 in the mkv with mkvtoolnix.

Or I think you can use media player classic if you just name the video and audio like video.mkv and video.ac3 and you should be able to select the ac3 audio. I use haali media splitter and ffdshow to decode mkvs and play with mpc.

as per another post of mine, my media pülayer likes to FF or skip a secong or 2 of video every minute, so I use vlc.

zzyzx2, I'm having the exact same problem with probally the same file you downloaded. Would you mind explaining to me how you got the mkv to play alongside the external ac3 because the original mkv is in russian.

samy, use the mkvtoolnix. it takes a few minuts to remux the file with your english audio and your done. to make sure it can fit on a dvd, just uncheck the russian audio file. let me know if it works

I need to know, where can I download the ac3 (audio) files for diffrent language. I mean I have a movie with russian ac3(russian audio) and want to add eng ac3 in this mkv file.
Please guide me.

sstt5, you need to read our rules before posting. 'The Reader" appears to be a copyrighted video and was never released as a MKV, AFAIK, and your download would appear to be Warez and in violation of our rules. Since the original posters questions have been answered, I'm locking this thread. Buy the DVD or look elsewhere for help.
