  1. I found a better solution, xy-VSFilter. I will overwrite the VSFilter in the AVStoDVD folder with this one.

Is there anyway to alter the HC.ini for all projects, rather then have to edit it manually at the start of the project

I want to change the matrix to a custom one and add/change a couple of other settings for all my projects, but adding the HC.ini where the HCEncoder is, it looks like AVStoDVD doesn't read that one but creates its own for each project

On another note, is there anyway to add the option to use 64-bit software where they are available. Such as ffmpeg or ffdshow. I've tried installing these myself but it appears that AVstoDVD loads the 32-bit ones only if your running on a 64-bit system

Just to try and squeeze a bit more out of the encodes and to see if it does increase speeds due to 64-bit memory access

    Thanks

  3. I'm encountering problems when using source chapters list, the second video has chapters from first and second video, third video has chapters from first, second and third video and so on. By the tenth video, it has like 50 chapters from video 1-10. Any solution to fix this?

Update: I found a solution. Adding the videos one by one fix this problem. Importing all videos all at once caused this problem.

  4. @steptoe

AVStoDVD is a 32bit software and requires 32bit ffdshow. Period. That's good old Visual Basic.

About HCenc custom settings, if you toggle on 'Edit encoder command parameters at runtime' (Advanced Options), you will be able to tweak the ini file.

I seem to be getting a lot of problems with output that has no cell split for dual layer DVDs. This has been going on for some time, and it's easily fixed using VobBlanker, so I haven't worried too much about reporting it.

IMGBURN 2.5.8.0 complains that it cannot find a split cell for the layer break, using AVStoDVD V2.7.2, but it has been happening since earlier versions, and getting worse since (I think), around 2.7.0.

But it's currently running at about 7 out of 10 conversions are having this problem.

Is this an ffmpeg issue? Is there a setting I can change to reduce the number of times this happens?

    thanks

i seldom get this problem NOW
each run, i manually reduce the avg bitrate about 200~300, it is enough to reduce the max size of the file to 8200 or less
so i am not burning to the edge
i also set chapter time to an odd number, also the smaller the chapter the more chapters, the easier to find a layer break
this combination has helped me alleviate the 'layer break' problem and the use of vobblanker to create a break

    Thanks for your reply.

    I use 5 minute chapters.

My max bit rate is set at 8800, and I rarely get output close to 7.96 gb.

This happens regardless of the size of the output. For example, I recently converted one file that was less than 6 gb, and it had the same problem.

Typically, AVS2DVD sets a bitrate of 8552. I rarely ever tweak that.

    Mrc,
thanks for the release version - installed it now.
I must ask - is there a reason you use this old version of DGindex/DGdecode (1.50 Vs. 1.58) ?

  11. Hi Dave,

let me know your impressions about the new release.

About DGIndex, no particular reasons, other than my laziness. Just to verify if there are any mods to the CLI from 1.5.0 to 1.5.8

Yes of course, I've just started looking at it.
I updated the A2D install folder with the more recent DGindex. The reason is, I use it with other apps,
also manually, not good to have two version is use, because the corresponding DGdecode is supposed to match.

  13. Hi, I'm using AVStoDVD 2.7.3.
I have 2 titles and I used "Join Source titles (AVS file)" to join them.
    both have the same audio:

    AC3 - 384 kbps - CBR - 6 ch - 48000 Hz - 16 bit - 44:52 minute (0 ms delay) - Internal
    AC3 - 384 kbps - CBR - 6 ch - 48000 Hz - 16 bit - 43:34 minute (0 ms delay) - Internal

but when I join the too titles get:
    AviSynth - 384 kbps - CBR - 2 ch - 48000 Hz - 1:28:26 hours (0 ms delay) - Internal

and where is the 6 ch audio????
Can you help me? Is it a bug?
    Thanks

Why do you want to join them, are they 2 halves of one movie?
With the correct setting, They can/will play as one title , when playing the DVD
Even though they are two titles on the DVD menu
I only join clips, where I have been editing commercial interruptions

Try this. On the edit title/audio tab, deselect "auto audio setup", and ensure
"audio direct stream copy" is selected. Redo the project.

  17. No sorry, don't work.
I tried to do what write at FAQ 4.1
Q4.1 Source audio stream has 5.1 channels, encoded output stream has only 2 channels. Why?
A: Make sure you have correctly configured the directshow AC3 filter output mixer. For example, if you are using ffdshow, mixer must be as follows:
    http://sites.google.com/site/avstodvdmain/ffdshow_audio_mixer_5_1ch.png
Anyway, if you have installed ffdshow, AVStoDVD will dynamically setup it for you at runtime.
To check if ffdshow is being used as AC3 decoder, you can use GraphStudio (from main window: 'Codecs'/'Build Filters Graph').
    In this way I have:
    AviSynt - 384 kbps - CBR 6 ch - 48000 Hz - 1:28:26 hours (oms delay) - InternL

When I look at the preview with the PC speakers I can hear only a part of the dialogue as a 5.1 if I listened to a pair of stereo speakers. It 's normal? In all other projects with AVStoDVD always had a 5.1 sound, but felt all the dialogues

    Power of FAQ

About the audio output preview, it depends on how the ffdshow output mixer is configured. The default value is 2.0, hence ffdshow downmix 5.1 to 2.0 remapping half of the central channel (the speech channel) to left and right channels. Hence you usually properly listen the dialogue. Instead using 5.1 output the central channel is not split, actually it is lost.

Anyway, create the DVD, restore the ffdshow mixer to 2.0, play the DVD, and you will hear the dialogue.

  19. Yes, that was only the preview, I burned the DVD andd It is ok.
The setting of ffdshow mixer is automatically returned to 2.0 when I closed AVStoDVD.
So when I hear the VD all is ok.

Just a question, I burned a lot of DVD created with AVStoDVD and I never had this problem, only this time when I used "Join Source titles (AVS file)".
The other times I never had to change the setting of the mixer from 2 to 5; the default value is 2.0 and it is always on this value and AVStoDVD work usually fine!
Why not only in this case?

Hey, guys. I've been having a weird issue lately and I thought someone here might be able to help.

I normally use AVStoDVD with HCenc 2-Pass. Lately, when I try to use that encoder, AviSynth seems to just stall out. It gets to about 1/3 of the way through the first pass and then the frame rate starts to drop. When I look at the preview, it updates less frequently as well. Eventually the frames slow down to nothing and then, after a time, shoot up to 750fps or more and then HCenc crashes.

I've tried the different AVS Video Source Filters and also tried HCenc 1-Pass. Only FFmpeg (safe mode) works. Because of this, I think the problem is related to AviSynth. I'm running Windows 8.1 x64 with AVStoDVD 2.7.3 installer. I've tried everything I can think of, including installing different codec packs (both LAV Filters and ADVANCED Codecs for Windows 7 and 8) and versions of AviSynth (2.5.8, 2.6.0 and AviSynth+), but I always get the same results.

It's so strange that this problem popped up out of nowhere after using AVStoDVD for years without issue. I don't use any codec packs besides those that come with AVStoDVD 2.7.3 installer. And I can't think of any programs I've installed in the past couple of months that could cause a conflict. I'm starting to think there might be something goofy happening with my Windows installation, although I'm not having any troubles otherwise. It's such a big job to reinstall Windows, I'm hoping to save that as a last resort.

Are there any logs that I can upload here that might make it clear what is going on?

Thanks in advance for any help you guys could provide!

does the issue happen with specific input formats or with every sources?

What about the directshow decoding chain? Post here a screenshot of one graph sample ('Codecs'/'Build DirectShow Filters Graph').

It happens with every video file I've tried, including MKV and MP4 files. I clicked on Make Graft Screenshot, but I couldn't figure out where it put the file! I ended up doing a screen capture.

I know that Microsoft DTV-DVD Decoder isn't right, but it never caused problems before. When I tried using ADVANCED Codecs for Windows 7 and 8 to fix the issue, there were options that let me disable the Microsoft Decoder and then choose either FFDShow or LAV instead, which I confirmed with GraphEdit. Unfortunately, this didn't fix the problem either. Since it didn't make a difference either way, I uninstalled ADVANCED Codecs and went back to using the FFDShow that installs with the AVStoDVD 2.7.3 installer.

Just another try to double check it is not a codecs issue: go to 'Codecs'/'Preferred DirectShow Codecs Setup' and select ffdshow for all video and audio codecs. Then go back to 'Codecs'/'Build DirectShow Filters Graph' to verify the change is effective. If everything is ok, restart the project.

I uninstalled FFDShow and Haali, rebooted and ran CCleaner. Then I installed ADVANCED Codecs for Windows 7 and 8. Using that, I was able to disable Windows Media Foundation and Microsoft's Audio Decoder. I set the merit on FFDShow to default:

The problem persists. I also tried lowering the merit on FFDShow and enabling the LAV filters, but unfortunately had the same result.

When I first start HCenc on this particular file, it's running at close to 150fps. By the time it hits 25% done, it's dropped to 90fps. With the LAV filters enabled, it actually completed the first pass, but then crashed at the start of the second pass.

It seems like the codecs are fine and AviSynth just slows down and fails, but I'm just guessing. Are there any logs generated that would be useful? Thanks again for all the help!

Perhaps the HCenc log? Hit the +select button at the top of AVStoDVD screen.
    Deselect "Delete AVStoDVD working files".

Rerun the project, the HCenc log should be in the temp folder as designated in the Preferences/paths.

  26. I am having issues with the position of subtitles in my authored DVDs -- they are too low.

I never had a problem in the past with srt vertical positioning so I must have tweaked some setting by mistake.

I have tried adjusting the vertical position in Preferences->Authoring/Burning->----- but it seems to have no effect whatsoever. For the included log file, I chose an exagerated vertical position of 400 from the bottom but I don't see '400' anywhere in the log file.

Subtitle position works for me using the latest release (2.73) Did you remember to save the
    current preferences as default?

They can easily be raised after making the DVD using DVDSubEdit. It's not worth reencoding just for subtitle positioning.

Thanks for that. I switched back to ffdshow for audio and video decoding. The encode starts out at just over 150fps and then slowly drops to 60fps by the end of the first pass. HCenc fails after the first pass ends, but before the second pass can get started. Unfortunately, DVD_0_movie.HCenc.log doesn't provide much information:

Can you provide the main AVStoDVD log to match the above HCenc log ?

I do see two things, if you're going to use the BEST profile, set DC Precision to 10.
Secondly, there are avisynth frame errors.
