I hope you do not give up, I already spend many days and hours to make it work and I fail, but I want a winning program.
1st. is not this "you should setup it as 3/0/2 + LFE"
2nd. delete a file that said directshowsource.dll within Avysinth-plugins folder, but not if you that the referees.
3ro. ffdshow download the program and copy it into the same folder that you delete the old one.
4to. try all possible configurations and is still hanging the program when you start put a window opens and stays there HCenc.
When I open that program only, an error appears in the window that says: input error not complete.
I need your help, delete and reloaded the program but surely what generates the error I can not be erased.
Copy that file the last error, if not equal to the previous ones.

There's someting strange in this ini file, these two are mutually exclusive...
*CQ_MAXBITRATE 1
*BITRATE 4984
The result might be unpredictable.
I will fix it in the final HCenc 024, meaning dumping the CQ encoding.HCenc at: http://hank315.nl -

@Rosetta
1. Do you have that errors with every input file?
2. Do not play with settings: leave the default settings and ask here. Otherwise we cannot follow your progresses (if any)
3. Use always the 'Preview Clip' feature BEFORE to start encoding. That will save a lot of time and it gives you back AviSynth echo if there are errors.
Bye -
Sorry, you're right but do not touch the settings. You use VNC? You can connect remotely to my machine?
-
I do not give exhausted and started from 0, AVStoDVD install on another machine, also install the FFDShow Avisynth folder if not there or had to place it within pluggins, found in the configuration program audio mixer 3 / 0 / 2 and started applying LFE. It was the only modification I did. When you configure the AVStoDVD choose Preferences / Encoding
A2D Source
HCenc VBR 2 pass
QuEnc
Audio / Video Preferences
AC3
192
and marked the box Keep Compliant DVD audio and video
When I load the movie and choose the audio, says
Track2 - ENG - AC3 - 640kbps - CBR - 48000Hz - 6ch - 1:51:48 pm.
When I put a window opens START:
Use the two options, I gave you use it and do not use it in any of the two functions, but in a not remember which came out this error:

Well the truth is it's very difficult to use a translator all the time, I hope you find the solution to my problems.
Thank you very much for everything -
Find the archives of my first attempts, in the case of Fightplan video quality was excellent but I chose the audio in English, in the case of UP before you comment on whether the audio was in Spanish but when I saw the movie on my player missing half. In these two attempts did not mark any type of error so maybe you used to compare parameters and find the error now.

You must use ffdshow (always).
If you get errors when you try to encode a secondary audio track, you can try to demux it (instead of directly accessing it): when you are prompted to select which audio track to use, toggle on the small checkbox in the low-left side of the window.
Bye -
Whether you use the option I stay like this:
when I start asking me if I use ffdshow, I say yes and get this error followed by this one, then the window closes and I again ask for ffdshow
You pass the file it generates:

Gracias -
I set in ffdshow and effaced the configuration, change it back by 3/0/2 + LFE and it works, take 4 hours pass when I finish the movie but I appeared this notice:
After placing the film in the player actually takes only 1 minute of audio. That could have happened?

I have been using AVStoDVD out of the box to quickly convert Lagarith/Huffyuv files to DVD for quick burning and sharing. I like the simple interface and everything-included distribution. So far it functions properly although I have some issues.
1. Is there anything I can do in the way of passing options to the encoder to set it up for taking advantage of more cores / encoding faster? I notice that the quenc 0.75 alpha only uses four cores at a time.
2. I also was a bit confused by the difference between quenc and hcenc.
3. Biggest issue - I assume that if my source video is interlaced (e.g. SVHS captured to Lagarith or Huffyuv) with the encoder not having any way to specify audio and video, then it's up to me to specify the interlacing format for the titles in avs2dvd, right? If I set it to auto, then it encodes a DVD just fine but when burned then played on a DVD player, I can see the interlacing on pans plain as day.
3a. If I turn off the Auto video settings and say "DV source / BFF" which I think describes my video, then I get a "Script error: there is no function named LeakKernelBob" error when attempting to encode.
4. My source video is 720x480. The video encompasses the entire frame but should be standard 4:3. When I encode, if I specify 4:3 aspect ratio, the output I get from avs2dvd is 720x480 but the actual video appeared to be letterboxed both on top and to the sides... sort of like the source video is converted to ~ 533x400 or so then centered in a 720x480 frame. It's strange. Any ideas?
Example:
Not sure what's going on here... on a PC (e.g. windows media player) the "after" video is the same size but has bars up top. When playing back on a DVD player on a 16:9 screen, it's letterboxed on all four sides as decribed. Help!Last edited by sphinx99; 27th Mar 2010 at 21:17.

@Rosetta
I really have not understood your last question. Please clarify better. BTW, if you are trying to go from BluRay to DVD, you could find some useful info here.
@sphinx99
1. Are 4 cores not enough?! Wow, well I have only a dual core, so I usually skip this "problems"... BTW you should address the question to the author of QuEnc (discontinued) and HCenc (well supported)
2. Have a look to the AVStoDVD Help section
3. AVStoDVD tries to detect the input title fields configuration, both the scan type (Interlaced or Progressive) and if Interaced, the scan order (Bottom Field First, usually DV sources, or Top Field First, usually DVB broadcasting). It seems you have to understand if your source is BFF or TFF. More info in the Help section.
3a. That's very strange. Could you please post the AviSynth script ('Title Edit'/'AviSynth')?
4. Probably your input file DAR (Display Aspect Ratio) is 1.5 and not 1.333. That's would be the reason of letterboxes insertion. If you want to get rid of letterboxes, you can play with 'Title Edit'/'AviSynth'/'Vertical Resize' feature. Always use 'Preview Clip' to test your settings. -
Sure. What I did -
1. Start AVStoDVD (2.3.0 alpha is the version)
2. Add a video file (Lagarith 720x480 DAR 1.5, etc.)
3. Edit the video title - turn off Auto Video Setup, select QuEnc, 4:3, Full D1. Check DV Source and Interlaced Encoding, BFF radio toggled. Script shows,
Import("C:\Users\xxx\Desktop\AVS2DVD\Lib\A2DSource.avsi")
Video = A2DVideoSource("C:\Test\vhs-01-1980p-part01.avi", CacheFolder = "C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Temp")
Audio = A2DAudioSource("C:\Test\vhs-01-1980p-part01.avi", CacheFolder = "C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Temp")
Video = Video.ConvertToYV12
Video = Video.LeakKernelBob(0,7,false,false)
Video = Video.AddBorders(0,30,0,30)
Video = Video.Spline64Resize(720,480)
Video = Video.SeparateFields().SelectEvery(4,0,3).Weave()
AudioDub(Video, Audio) -
-
The AviSynth script does not have the required call to LeakKernelDeint.dll function and the statement Video = Video.ConvertToYV12 should be Video = Video.ConvertToYV12(interlaced=true). I cannot replicate the issue with my sample interlaced clips.
Could you please upload a small portion of your AVI? You can use Mediafire.com.
Thanks
If you want to get rid of the AddBorders() function (thus the letterboxes), you have to use the Vertical Resize feat.
Bye -
Thanks MrC for the assistance thus far. AVS2DVD is working great since I downloaded and put the LeakKernelDeint package in the plugins directory. Well, not great but it's working now. My scripts still have that call. I will post a video but it might take a day or two.
I solved the border issue simply by deleting the lines it's adding through the autoscript -
Video = Video.AddBorders(0,30,0,30)
Video = Video.Spline64Resize(720,480)
I also figured out the interlacing of my source, it's TFF. I encode w/o issues but when I put the burned DVD in a player and play, there is some jitter regardless of TFF or BFF. However I am suspecting that the issue is related to frame interpolation on the projector or video processing in the receiver. Not sure yet. -
Hey everyone. First I'd like to thank you, Mr. C, for contributing so much of your time to developing AVStoDVD! I love how you frequent the forums to answer questions. A model developer you are indeed.
So now, my problem: Choppy video when converting 720p/1080p .mkv --> SD-DVD5 (VIDEO_TS)
...................................Choppy as in: stuterring video/looks like low frame rate (eventhough VLC/MPC-HC shows ...................................streaming frame rate to be fine...or atleast I thought so)
...................................Audio is fine and does NOT become choppy (even when the video chops)
...................................All defects in terms of video are visible in "Preview Title" as well as final output (before encode)
...................................Only occurs in first 1/3 - 1/2 of the video duration
AVStoDVD Setup: **Everything is just about left at default, including Avisynth**
..............................Using Latest Version of AVStoDVD (Released 3-23-10)
..............................HCenc, 2-pass VBR locked in, NTSC
..............................Wavi+Aften, Convert Audio to 448 AC-3
Computer #1: Windows XP 32-bit
.........................AMD Opteron 144 1.8Ghz 64-bit
.........................1 GB DDR (PC3200) RAM (Dual Channel)
..........................ATI Radeon X850XT 256MB Graphics Card
Computer #2: HP Laptop | Model#: G60-125NR
........................2.00 GHz AMD Turion X2 RM-70 Dual-Core Mobile Processor
........................3 GB RAM
........................NVIDIA GeForce 8200M
A FEW DIFFERENT EXAMPLES OF GLITCHED VIDEO OUTPUT
Example #1: Converting 720p .mkv "The Ladykillers (1955)" ---> DVD5 (Video_TS)
-- First 5 minutes of the video is choppy, it looks as if it is rendering @ a low frame-rate. ~5 minute mark, it plays smooth.
-- Tried on both Computer #1 & #2 and output was the same
-- Audio is great (DTS --> AC-3)
Example #2: Crazy Heart 720p .mkv ---> DVD5 (Video_TS)
-- Not dramatic like the first 5 minutes of The Ladykillers. j
-- But certain seems just doesn't seem as fluid as they should be (the peoples' movements...most noticeable when look at people's mouths when talking)
-- This is only present in the first 1/3 - 1/2 of the movie
-- Computer #2 (two times)
-- First time, I used version of HCenc included with 3-23-10 release of AVStoDVD
-- Second time I actually used the newest version (April 4th, 2010) of HCenc (inside AVStoDVD), but the result was the same
-- Audio is great (DTS --> AC-3)
Example #3: American Graffitti 720p .mkv --> DVD5 (Video_TS)
-- Same as Crazy Heart. When I compare the output to source, there is a definite lag in movement on the screen (like in counter-strike **see below)
-- This time I used HCenc VBR 1-pass hoping for a different result. Didn't get it :-\
-- Once again, only present in the first 1/3 to 1/2 of the movie
-- Computer #1
-- Audio is great (Direct Stream Copy)
Now obviously SD output will not be as sharp/clear as a HD input. What I am seeing is video that is not as fluid as it should be. **It reminds me of how the players in Counter-Strike would look when my fps would drop.
So, has anyone else had similar problems when converting HD to SD? Here is my avisynth script generated in AVStoDVD (and some info about source) for American Graffitti project:

Any help or input one can offer will be GREATLY appreciated. I have been spending hours and hours encoding videos (trying different settings) trying to get this fixed. I have NO IDEA why The Ladykillers was so choppy for the first 5 minutes. The source file is BEAUTIFUL!
Thanks everyone, I look forward to your replies. I've tried to include as much info about my situation as possible to get the ball rolling.

I just used CCE SP2 Trial [w/ American Graffiti], and it came out perfectly with no choppiness.
I used the following AVS w/ CCE:
"DirectShowSource("D:\DVD BACKUPS\American.Graffitti.1973\American.Graffitti .1973.mkv")
ConvertToYV12
AddBorders(0,88,0,88)"
Basically all the CCE settings were the same as AVStoDVD (2:3 pulldown, 720x480, 16:9, etc.)
CCE output to .mpv
I then input .mpv (that CCE made) and .ac3 (that I extracted from mkv) into AVStoDVD and voila!
Until I can figure out what is causing the choppy video in AVStoDVD/HCenc, I will have to stick to using this method w/ CCE...bummer :-\Last edited by Cheezboyz; 11th Apr 2010 at 04:09.

@Cheezboyz
first of all thanks for the kind words, really appreciate them.
About stuttering problems: have you followed all the steps listed in 'Help'/'FAQ'/'Video'/'Q3.2" section? Please follow them and let me know if anything changes. Plus I would suggest you to try with QuEnc as video encoder, just to understand if the issue is HCenc related (not much probable).
Moreover, please attach the complete log file of your project.
Bye -
Thanks for replying Mr.C.
I will take a look @ the FAQ. Reason I haven't look at it yet is it doesn't seem to be included with Portable version? Help --> FAQ & Help --> Contents do nothing.
Additionally, I have been following the AVStoDVD discussion over @ Doom9 regarding MSharpen for HD --> SD Downscaling.
I did some tests last night with Saturday Night Fever (1977). I am showing this isolated image as the red collar was the most noticeable difference. I am using "Ron Spencer's" MSharpen parameters, and I think it must be a very light sharpen as there isn't much difference, but still some. (must wait 5 days to post @ Doom9)
1st Uses This Script:
ColorMatrix(mode="Rec.709->Rec.601")
ConvertToYV12(matrix="Rec601", interlaced =false)
Spline64Resize(720,480)
2nd Pic Uses This Script:
ColorMatrix(mode="Rec.709->Rec.601")
ConvertToYV12(matrix="Rec601", interlaced =false)
Spline64Resize(720,480)
MSharpen(8,60,true,false,false)
LoL, sorry...I probably should've shown the whole picture + some others...but I deleted all the pics after I made a good comparison hehe -
Here is the log for American Graffiti. I appreciate any insight you can offer. BTW, how cool is 0.3% undersize for 1-pass VBR? Pretty sweet! Also, just for the hell of it I ran this output DVD through DVD-RB w/ CCE....but no difference I really hope I can get back to using HCenc + AVStoDVD.

@Cheezboyz
I will take a look @ the FAQ. Reason I haven't look at it yet is it doesn't seem to be included with Portable version? Help --> FAQ & Help --> Contents do nothing
Code:Q3.2 Source video is OK but output video is jerking/stuttering. What can I do to remove/lower the artifacts?A: - Install a good directshow codecs suite (like ffdshow stable releases)- Select 'DirectShowSource' instead of 'A2DSource' in 'Preferences'/'Encoding'/'AVS Source Filter'- If 'DirectShowSource' fails, select 'FFMpegSource' in 'Preferences'/'Encoding'/'AVS Source Filter'
I did some tests last night with Saturday Night Fever (1977). I am showing this isolated image as the red collar was the most noticeable difference. I am using "Ron Spencer's" MSharpen parameters, and I think it must be a very light sharpen as there isn't much difference, but still some.
Finally do use ColorMatrix(mode="Rec.709->Rec.601") only if you are 100% sure that your footage was encoded using Rec.709 colorspace standard (use GSpot to check that). Otherwise colorimetry conversion is perfectly useless.

Thank you SOO much Mr. C
DirectshowSource Filter
I am about to convert one of my 4:3 letterboxed DVDs into "true" 16:9; I will change to DirectshowSource prior to doing so. Will update.
Regarding Colormatrix() ---> Please correct me if I'm wrong :-p
I have read conflicting information, but in accordance with (http://avisynth.org/mediawiki/YV12), I am concluding:
4:2:0 = YV12 = Rec.601#1) So, if MediaInfo shows source to be 4:2:0, I do NOT need Colormatrix. Correct?
I actually had 'ConverttoYV12' in my .avs when I ran my source through CCE. I then popped the .mpv + ac3 into AVStoDVD and again ConverttoYV12 was present in the AviSynth script. Is this to prevent colorspace from changing?
#2) But if it shows 4:2:2, I DO need Colormatrix, yes?
#3) Likewise, when my source is 4:2:0 (Already YV12), why does AVStoDVD add 'ConverttoYV12'...?
Thank you again Mr.C. Hope all is well with your little rugrats!
P.S. Have you considered having videohelp/doom9/sourceforge host the help files so portable users can have quick & easy access to this invaluable resource? (Without having to do a full install + uninstall solely to save the help files) If not, and I don't know the format of your help files, then pasting the FAQ in a thread here as well as @ doom9, and then linking to said thread(s) from your homepage could prove beneficial.Last edited by Cheezboyz; 14th Apr 2010 at 06:33.

i just used AVStoDVD to re-encode a mpeg2 stream so i could crop it and hit the target size of a dvd5.
source is a digital tv stream. the audio is mp2. unfortunately, the audio is about 2-300ms to late and
therefor not in sync.
(mpeg-ts stream converted to mpeg-ps with videoredo, but i can't use videoredo to re-encode, because if you crop, it wont add borders and you'll end up with a 1.78:1 AR instead of 2.35:1)
im just wondering why the audio is to late and if you can see something from the log file. thank you very much in advance.
the tool seems very nice and its great to see you answer questions here
