Can you open the file with Mediainfo, put it in tree view and post the whole thing here.

EDIT apparently, others have had issues with M2TS/PCM combination.
See this, there are some suggestions:

your system is not handling properly the m2ts file. Are you sure you have installed Haali Media Splitter and ffdshow? If you still have problems, make sure that Windows is not using its own directshow filters by using Windows7 Preferred Filter Tweaker. See Help/FAQ/General/Q1.5

  3. Hi everybody, and thanks in advance for your help.
I have a 24fps mkv file ripped from a Blu-ray disc. Everything went OK with the conversion to DVD except the audio, which is out of sync, a little at the beginning and increasingly worse at the end. I suspect this has something to do with the fact that the source file is 24fps and the resulting dvd video files are 23.976fps. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I'm using AVStoDVD release 2.6.0, and the source file:

There was a bug discovered recently with a 24 fps source file and the use of AVStoDVD QUenc mpeg encodoer.
(the default for higher bitrate) You could try changing it to use 1-pass or 2-pass HCenc in the edit title/video tab.

In general, 24 fps source is not a problem , as it flagged to repeat frames in a pattern to achieve 29.97 fps
in the pulldown step. The running time does not change, hence no sync problem.

This is a really good program, and I rely on it quite a lot, but there remain some significant issues yet to be conquered. MKV is one, particularly if it contains multiple soundtracks &/or subtitles. AVC can be another. I regularly encounter AC3 issues -- right now as I type this, another job went to backup audio encoding using FFMPEG, after "errors" were found, so it's great to have that built-in 'Plan B' -- and I've had to separately extract an AC3 file on occasion with Audio Extractor, in order to continue on with a job. Ditto for manually turning a number of SRT files to SUP format, with the Subtitle Creator that is part of AVS. Not exactly "set it and forget it" smooth sailing, but once all the respective asset files have been generated, everything worked out, and the results were good.

For the job I'm running at the moment, CX2D (not the latest version) choked and died immediately. In some cases it was the other way around, where AVS could not handle something, but CX2D did. And there have been cases I've run into where neither could cope with a given source.

Given the variety and unknown status of the sources we manage to collect, I guess this was never going to be easy . . . .

Just so readers who may not have seen this will know, this is typically where AVS halts on a job when the .Srt subtitles phase bombs out. (I've seen a couple other errors, but this one is much more common.) Using AVS version 2.60. [_MrC_, I've just PM'd to you a link for the latest log and .Srt files.]

On the other hand, I just had a .Sub + .Idx job complete without a hitch, and that has not always been a given.

  9. AVStoDVD 2.7.0 Alpha 130412 is available to download ("NoInstall" package only - for testing purpose).

Main change is the full replacement of QuEnc with FFmpeg (input AviSynth script).

    Change log:

    - Some bugs fixed
    - Added possibility to customize authored Subtitles position ('Preferences'/'Authoring')
    - Added 'AVS Audio Source Filter' in 'Preferences'/'AviSynth'
    - Renamed 'AVS Source Filter' to 'AVS Video Source Filter' in 'Preferences'/'AviSynth'
    - Replaced 'QuEnc CBR 1-pass' Video Encoding Profile with 'FFmpeg CBR 1-pass'
    - Replaced QuEnc with FFmpeg for AC3 and MP2 encoding (QuEnc has been actually removed from AVStoDVD package)
    - Added 'Use FFmpeg HQ Options' in 'Title Edit'/'Video'
    - Added possibility to resize Jobs List window
    - Improved titles media properties info management
    - Improved SRT subtitles parsing routine
    - Improved ASS to SRT conversion routine
    - Improved log activity (reference to Help/FAQs section)
    - Removed 'Save Log file in Output Folder at runtime' option in 'Preferences'/'Misc' (now it always saved)

    Bye

P.S. @Seeker47: this release should fix many of the SRT conversion errors you get.

Just installed the latest 2.7.0 release over the top of my old one (backup first), now getting runtime error 5 invalid procedure call or argument

Read about advising not to install but create a fresh folder to install, so I tried that as well. Still getting runtime error 5, invalid procedure call or argument

But my older 2.6.0 release is still working perfectly for its own folder, tried downloading again in case its a corrupt download. No ... still getting the runtime error 5 and can't get any further. Installed in a new folder

Can't see whats going wrong as the older version works perfectly ?

I downloaded the second alpha, however, the first alpha worked fine. Never
had a problem in my XP system. Perhaps certain configurations?

Program is becoming more flexible.... quite simple for beginners to get it going, but offering some
great options for power users. Thanks MrC.

The bug was related to the Quick StartUp Tutorial. If you had already set up your preferences (saved in the Registry), the Tutorial form does not come out.

So far, I've done 3 jobs with the test Alpha. Aften died with no explanation during the AC3 phase on one of them. (There were no subs, in this case.) So I used Audio Extractor 225 to get the AC3, and from there it was clear sailing. Wondering if the AC3fix business may have regressed in this alpha ? With AVS 260, a backup audio processing option often kicked in to take over, and avoid this halting of a job.

  20. No major changes in audio encoding from 2.6.0 to 2.7.0 Alpha. If you often have issues with Aften, I would suggest you to change from 'Wavi+Aften' to 'FFmpeg (AviSynth)' as AC3 audio encoder.

BTW could you post the project log files?

    MrC,
I discovered something odd when saving a project using the alpha release.

I started a new project, added my source, saved the project (save as) then close the program.
Later, I re-opened AVStoDVD, loaded the project, but it only contained the video, the audio was missing.

Tried it a few more times with different sources, and it was repeatable.

MrC, a couple of other things with the alpha.

If you start a project, load the source and delete the audio, the process fails. The info box in Hcenc says "can't find input file" The same problem occurs if you load a source file (I was using xvid avi) without any audio.
(is it related to the previous problem?)

The second thing I found is strange. The source file is 720*304, although it appears to have an internal aspect ratio of 2.40.
When A2D generates the script, it includes this:
    Video = Video.AddBorders(0,53,0,53)

This gives an avisynth error message, it says addborders (top) must be a mod 2 size.
    Here's a sample of the file (6MB) :

    _MrC_,

Will QuEnc now be totally gone and out of the picture, even as an option ? I know you're disenchanted with it, and can understand if you want to not have it be one of the standard defaults, but I'd really rather still be able to use it in AVS on occasion, should I wish to. (Might there not be some cases where it works out better than the other encoder options ?) Any chance of that ?

would you help me to get new version

  26. @dave

thanks for the new bug report. You are doing an excellent job! The audio (and subs) management and encoding sections have been re-written a lot, to simplify the multi tracks output, which had become a mess in the source code: something like the Win registry after tons of progs installations, you know.. Probably you will find other *small* bugs coming out as secondary effect from this code optimization.

About the AddBorders issue, I cannot replicate it using the uploaded file. In fact mod 1 should be ok for top/bottom letterboxing and YV12 color space, while mod 2 is the minimum for left/right. See AddBorders wiki. We have to deepen the cause of the error msg.

    @Seeker47

yes I would like to drop QuEnc. BUT if I get many users requests to mantain its support, I will do. Of course the requests should be motivated. As a matter of fact, latest FFmpeg builds seem to deliver equal or better quality (and speed) than QuEnc. See my comparison on Doom9 forum.

    @n0name

could you please upload the mkv (or a portion of it) somewhere to replicate the reported issue?

    Hi MrC,
I've got two installs of XP on my PC, on one of them I'm running the latest Avisynth version 2.60 alpha 4.
This must be where the problem originates. I tried it on the other system using the older Avisynth and all is well.
    https://www.videohelp.com/download/AviSynth_130114.exe

Is this a bug in Avisynth or an intentional change?

    Dave

EDIT see the comments beginning October 17 2010 by dansrfe - seems as if there was a change.

  28. Hello. I'm having aspect ratio problems with AVStoDVD.

I have an uncompressed dvd rip in PAL mpeg format. The mpeg is anamorphic widescreen and plays correctly in all my media players (VLC, GOM & WMP).

I'm trying to compress it down to a single layer size whilst also burning in (hard coding) an srt subtitle file.

Unfortunately several attempts have come to nought as for some reason avstodvd is resizing the video into letterboxed 4x3 and adding unneed black bars to and bottom.

I've been using AVStoDVD occasionally for a couple of years (including adding hard coded subs) without this problem happening so I can't for the life of me figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Before I started this project I upgraded to version 2.6.0. Could this have something to do with it?

EDIT: It would appear not. I tried an old version and got the same result.
