    From the 2.60a changelog:

    - Improved 'Fix SRT' routine for authored subtitles

Is this something that would catch and correct the "out of spec" characters sometimes found in an .SRT file -- such as with an example or two that I called to your attention, which had been causing that part of the AVS chain to halt in its tracks ?

Incidentally, I had a 3 hour film recently that had quite a few foreign language words + mis-spelled English words in its .SRT. I think it was Subtitle Edit that I used on it, if that is the subs program with the built-in OCR engine. (I have a few subs programs here.) It did a rather good job of flagging or replacing these as necessary, throughout the file. Didn't take all that long, either.

    improvements in Fix SRT routine:

    - Remove </> at the beginning of the line
    - Replace '' with "
    - Remove "spaces" at the end of timestamps line

Let me know if any other fixes can be added.

  5. Mr. C,

I am having one problem with encoding the audio.

I can either encode using something other than FFmpeg and it says that it failed and I should use FFmpeg as a backup.

If I do, the audio successfully encodes as stereo but if I don't, the audio encodes as "3F2R/LFE" (VLC codec info).

If I tell the program to begin with FFmpeg, it encodes the audio as "3F2R/LFE".

How can I tell FFmpeg to encode the audio as stereo or automatically select the FFmpeg as the backup after it crashes?

The audio works on the DVD if I use the stereo encoding via FFmpeg backup. In other words, the program works but it will give me an error that needs my attention after each video has been encoded.

could you please post the log file of the project with default settings (Wavi+Aften as AC3 encoder)?

    Bye
That didn't do anything because my setup is set to what it should be (stereo) as shown in the compassion between the FAQ pic and my config pic.

An important note; ffdshow was installed AFTER AVStoDVD.

The AVStoDVD installer must NOT have this program with it as I made sure that every box was checked during the installation of AVStoDVD.

Is it that the program does not recognize the ffdshow program that it recommended itself?

Under the software info at preferences, I do not see ffdshow listed at all.

Do I need to configure the codecs at all?

I currently have AVIS set to AviSynth and uncompressed set to all supported. Everything else is set to disabled.

  10. Do you have installed AC3Filter or any other directshow AC3 decoders that may interfer with ffdshow?

You can verify if ffdshow (or any other codec) is processing your file using GraphEdit or GraphStudio (render media file).

  11. I opened the test file with GraphEdit and used the 'Render Media File..' command from the file menu.

    This is what I got.

    P.S.

When I uninstalled and reinstalled the AVStoDVD and ffdshow programs, the audio encoded but now it is too fast.

As usual, the backup audio works and the audio channel is the same wrong value as before.

    P.P.S.

I just happened to look at my system tray and I saw a ffdshow logo for the audio and video.

This does not appear when I run AVStoDVD!!!

hello MrC, merry christmas. i just have a feature request. when you include you own ac3 file that just gets copied by avstodvd, is it possible to enable the audio delay still so that if our audio delay is off we can still correct it with the audio delay option? right now is it is greyed out if you have avstodvd just copy the ac3.
    Quote Quote
  14. Hi tebugg and merry Christmas to you.

About delay in audio direct stream copy, it is possible, but unfortunately Muxman (BatchMux, actually) has the capability to adjust audio delay in the limited range of +/- 300 ms. That could be enough for many projects, but not 100% exhaustive.

I just had another case -- twice actually, once on the original processing, then a second time when I tried to re-use the generated .m2v and .ac3 files -- of AVS bombing out on the join subtitles phase. I had discarded the 0 bytes .Sup file, in favor of the .Srt file. This was using ver. 2.5.1, and it did attempt to run an .Srt fixing routine. (I suppose I should manually check the .Srt file for problem characters.)

This may (again ?) be related to the source being .Mkv, containing more than one audio track. (Even though the audio has already been rendered into an .Ac3 file.) In the past, when I've tried to jettison one or more unwanted audio tracks from such .Mkv source files in the initial encoding phase, AVS did not like that at all and would usually bomb out because of that.

I found the solution to the problem and you were half right.

I didn't look at the log but the video comes out correctly.

I disabled the audio decoder and another one took its place.

This one makes sense because I am using a camcorder from the same company.

I've posted my final graph below.

It seems that the SRT has some troubles. Attach it here or send it by email (avstodvd@gmail.com).

The latest 2.6.0 Alpha release has some improvements in the SRT fixing routine. You could give it a try.

  21. That SRT file seems to be absolutely indigestible by SubtitleCreator using the command line approach. Anyway if you open SubtitleCreator, load the file and convert it to SUP, it does. Then add the SUP to AVStoDVD.

O.K., will do. By far, most of the .Srt files that come my way pose no problem. But, given enough samples of the troublesome kind, it should become possible to identify more of the "gotchas" commonly found in them, leading to better automated fixes. (?)

I just bought this Blu-Ray at BEST BUY (here in the US of A) that has 25 Spaghetti Westerns all on a single Blu-Ray disc. Turns out they are all standard NTSC MPEG-2 with AC-3 audio.

Just wanted to say THANK YOU for your program since I'm able to use it to load the M2TS (thankfully each movie is a separate M2TS file) and your program, with the correct settings, just passes it through (without any re-encoding or transcoding) and makes a standard NTSC DVD for me. All very simple and easy and very damn quick. You see some of these movies are incredibly rare and they only did this Blu-Ray release (as far as I know) so the NTSC DVD copies are for a friend of mine who only has DVD hardware (and yes he still uses a standard def tube TV).

Anyway your program made what could have been a time consuming job very simple. So thank you!

    P.S.
Oddly the Blu-Ray says "Digitally Remastered 1920x1080" but all 25 movies are standard 720x480 MPEG-2 with AC-3 and seem to just be regular DVD spec files. I guess that is how you get 25 movies on one Blu-Ray disc LOL

yes, that the purpose to collect many SRT samples. BTW the last SRT issue was weird because SubtitleCreator is able to convert it to SUP using the GUI, but not thru the CLI.

    @FulciLives

    It is my pleasure!

I have 32GB of 2400mhz Ram in my computer. I have set up 4gb of that as a Ramdisk using Softperfect RamDisk.
In the AVStoDVD preferences there are two paths: Assets path and Temp files path.
I am considering changing the Assets path to use the ram disk, but I'm wondering if 4gb will be enough?
I guess, what I'm asking is what does AVStoDVD consider as "assets"? I'm assuming Temp files will be the big stuff?

  26. Hello!

    I'm using the version 2.5.1.

When I open a media file I get the following message:

Only the cancel button is accepted.

Yup, I saw one of those recently also. Probably a first for me with this particular message, and I can only assume there was something wrong with the video source file. Since I also had no idea what to do about it for AVS, and I was able to get by on that particular job with less-than-AVS-level results, I just ran it through CX2D, which is generally less particular about various flaws in your sources.

If _MrC_ posts a step-by-step solution for this, I'll try it if and when I might ever encounter this issue again.

  28. There is an issue with MediaInfo 0.7.59 and fps reading with comma. To fix:

    - overwrite MediaInfo.dll in AVStoDVD\Lib folder with latest release (0.7.61)

    or

    - install latest AVStoDVD 2.6.0 Alpha release

DVD assets are the elementary streams needed to author DVD: m2v, ac3, sup, ...

I suggest you to have 5+ GB for DVD-5 and 10+ GB for DVD-9.

I overwrote the MediaInfo.dll in the folder mentioned above, but it gave the same error message. So I uninstalled the version 2.5.1 and installed the 2.6.0 alpha, but it gives the same error...
