Hi Charlot, unfortunately, the bottom half of the log is missing. It shows the encode beginning, but nothing else.
Is it the whole thing? Did the encode actually finish ? In general, the speed to complete the project
depends on the power of the PC, CPU mostly. You didn't mention your PC specs, also, if the source file is 1080 Vs 720,
    that will also take longer.

    Thanks for your reply,

Yo are right. That is only the top part of the log file because when I have written that message, the conversion was not finished yet. It is completed now and it looks marvellous but it sure took his time! I have attached the whole log file this time.

As for my compute spects, I thought that they would appear in the bottom of my message because I have written them in my profile. Here they are.

    Win 7 X64 SP1, Intel Core i3, 4 GB RAM
For more info on my system:
    http://speccy.piriform.com/results/one6VRNJO5QzC8iVk8p77DT

The movie was HD 1080p so I did expect to wait a while but the whole thing lasted about 12 hrs and the CPU/Memory/Disk was not nearing capacity at all. I'm now doing other tests with the ffmpg AVS Source Filter to see if that would be faster... Also, do you think that there could be a speed difference between HCenc and QuEnc? I'll have to try it... What do you think?

    Hello -
I looked at the log, it shows the project started at 2011-04-29 @ 10:30:53
and ended at 2011-04-30 00:46:23. Did it start at 10.30 AM or PM?

    That's either 2 or 14 hours of encoding time - If it's only 2 hours that's a good time.
If it's 14, it seems very long.

Nope, unfortunately, it's 14 hours... It took 2 hours just to sample the video!

I tried a couple of things without success:
I tried ffmpg AVS Source Filter, QuEnc and even removing multthreading... It's always 10hrs or more of encoding... I guess I will just have to be patient for these big HD source movies?!

There is a version off ffmpegsource that uses multi-core. I don't know if MrC (the author) has looked at it or not.
I had tried it in a previous release of the program and it seemed to work. It has some speed up in the decoding of the
source. Another thing you could try is to change the re-size filter from Spline64resize to Bicubicresize.
Even bilinear, if you don't mind a slightly softer picture. Both of those filters are faster than the Spline filters.

Also, if a2dsource is using dshowsource, make sure you directshow AVC decoder is multi-threaded.

Tyson, perhaps FAVC ? It also uses HCenc as the encoder. I understand what you're saying, not all of us have the
time or inclination to study the program and it's settings. However, no matter how well the program is coded,
there will still be some odd occasion where a manual tweak will get the best results.

    What is your outstanding problem(s)

    Dave,

My PC has an AMD Quad Core Athlon II x64 3.0 GHz CPU. I'm using AVStoDVD version 2.3.3 and when converting an FLV file to DVD format using ffmpegsource there typically are 3 cores each showing about 40% CPU usage. Does that mean I have the multi-core version of ffmpegsource?

Hard to say. Download the mt ffmpegsource from here:
    http://code.google.com/p/ffmpegsource/downloads/list

(I downloaded the 2.15 version, although r459 has appeared in the last few days)

Extract ffms2.dll and use it to replace the AVStodvd version in the \lib subfolder.

See if gives you a speed up.

I don't know what else to suggest to you, except for this last suggestion.
Uninstall AVStoDVD and download and install the latest version:
    https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/277852-AVStoDVD-release-2-3-4-%28January-2011%29?p=...=1#post2073556

Start it up, set your preferences. On the Avisynth tab set the source to directshow. Save it as default.
Load your source file and start the encode. Does it work now ?

it could be a splitter/codecs issue. Be sure you have installed Haali Media Splitter and ffdshow stable release. Get rid of other codecs pack (if any).

  19. (process aborted during title 1 SUBS encoding operations)

    Greetings

the video source (avi) of my pretended conversion is in NTSC format (24fps), as its subtitles (.srt).
I pretend to convert both to a DVD folder (vob) in PAL format.

This anexed log referes to a 1st experience, not using avysynch (NTSC to PAL) which I though it wouldn't report any error, because the original format would be preserved (NTSC to NTSC) but it did...

Now I'm testing with avysynch so the resulting format will be PAL, but should I convert the subtitles first to a 25fps (PAL) ?

I'm stucked in an alley not knowing what to do next.

    Thanks in advance.

  20. Hi Ze Tomes,

the issue is within the srt subtitles file, no indications that there are problems in video conversion between NTSC to PAL.

    1. Where did you get that subtitles file (srt)?
    2. Are you sure that the srt is OK? Please check it with SubtitlesCreator (it comes with AVStoDVD package)
    3. If you still cannot solve, attach here the srt file or send it to me by email (avstodvd@gmail.com)

  21. Greetings MrC,

    thank you for responding,

1 - the files were obtained on opensubtitles.org.
2 - The file was ok before I converted it to PAL (I don't know even if the conversion was correctly made...) I just tested and they aren't syncronized anymore... I got even more confused... How can I convert avi (NTSC) to avi (PAL) without having the stuttering frame effect?

This thread is more detailed and has the whole history of my experiences which ended all in failure.

I haven't tried yet SubtitlesCreator, I used Subtitle Edit to convert the frame rate.

    Thank you in advance

  22. Some consideration:

    1. When you are encoding video requiring a frame rate change, but without altering the time length, then you do not have to worry about srt subtitles, simply because they are time based, and not frame based.
    2. When converting from NTSC-film (23.976 fps) to PAL (25 fps), AVStoDVD uses by default a pulldown approach, which does not alter the time length.
    3. I have tried to convert the attached srt to sup (both with SubtitlesCreator and AVStoDVD) and... conversion ended successfully.

Do you have the possibility to play a little bit with SubtitlesCreator? Maybe you can have some hints.

  23. I reset the experiences to zero as I wasn't sure the audio encoding would result right (as previously didn't), before the subtitle problem would occur (i though the audio problem was consequence of uncoordinated subtitling).

So I started simply by converting the avi file without subtitles to a DVD structure.

The video prcessing went perfectly right - check
When audio processing started, the screen image keept the same from the begining to the end without showing changes in the processing percentage. At the first times I thought the prgram was jammed (you can see the linking image of the screen)

The final result was the same, perfect image but without audio.

    I wonder what's the cause...

garbage_warrior_(0...2).jpg show a sequence of the process of converting
dvd_0.log is the correspondent AVStoDVD log file
video_info.txt is the analysis of the avi video (garbage_warrior)

  24. The next experience was exactly the same as the previous, except I unckecked the option <auto audio setup> and checked the option <keep DVD compliant audio> at audio properties. The result was better. There was sound, but no synchronization.

  25. The following experience was quite effective. I didn't notice this hypothesis of yours on another thread and it resulted quite good. I turned back again auto edit with the installed encoder (ffdshow_rev3814_20110411_clsid) downloaded at FFDShow site. Perfect video and perfect audio synchronization. I think not havig installed FFDShow encoders caused the flaws of no audio and visible subtitles. Now I'll try to resolve the subitle question.

    Thank you MrC!

    Bye
I am studying the program, but I am quite nerdish in all this new concept of editing. After the good result of the last experience I simply added both movie and subtitles to see what it comes up with.

Yet, I am a little confused tough... I have both versions of the subtitles (*.srt):

    original (NTSC) ~24 f/ps
    altered (PAL) 25 f/ps

So, I shouldn't worry about both subtitle formats, simply add one of them (without criteron) only confirming the time lenght coinciding with both subtitle and video file, as long as AVStoDVD synchronization to PAL is active, is that isn't it?

    thank you again MrC

  27. Converting the subtitles to PAL resulted in an alteration of their time lengh (I thought it was necessary because of AVStoDVD's message while associating the subtitles with the video for conversion, warning to confirm if their inner structure (.srt) was either 25 fps or 29). The result was desynchronization.

Now I am experiencing not altering the original subtitles format, keeping the previous resulting positive results configuration. I'm quite confident of good results

  28. Not as I thought,

Having the original video file (avi, NTSC) and subtitle file (srt, NTSC) played on VLC, everything is ok.

converting both directly with AVStoDVD (checked option Use PAL SpeedUp for NTSC-film to PAL) resulted in desynchronization
converting the subtitle frame rate to PAL (25) and using the configuration above, resulted also in desynchronization,

Untill the moment, the only way I was able to make a good conversion to DVD (subtitles coordinated) was using NTSC format without changing the original video and subtitle formats (NTSC).

I still can't figure how to be successful making a conversion to PAL (keeping the subtitles coordinated with the video)

    ---

The final experience was a success

I only converted the subtitle format to PAL (originally NTSC ~24fps), not touching the original video format (NTSC ~24fps) next puting both as they were to AVStoDVD conversion.

    So:

    original subtitles (srt / 24 / NTSC)
    original video (avi / 24 / NTSC)

    data inserted on AVStoDVD:

    converted subtitles to PAL (25)
    video kept untouched (NTSC)

    AVStoDVD configurations:

    - PAL
    - Use PAL SpeedUp for NTSC-film to PAL - check

The result was perfect. Case Closed

    Cheers
