If there's a specific reason you need FFdshow that's fine. If not, I'd uninstall it. Just keep the LAV filters

how to i get it to give me elevated prival ?

I'm assuming you've sorted it now, but download CodecTweakTool for future. It forces codecs to what you want NOT what Microsoft thinks everybody wants. I've used it many times when the filters refuse to change no matter what I try and stay at the Microsoft rubbhish codecs

You can also set 64-bit filters as well, not that I've noticed much difference

I also use LAVFilters nightlies with no problems, and added 64-bit versions of some software that AVStoDVD plays nicely wiith

  3. I'm trying to author a DVD with subtitles but everytime I try AVStoDVD troubleshoots. It will only allow me to continue authoring without subtitles. Can someone help? Is there something I'm doing wrong?

What is the fiile format of the subs?
Is it embedded in the video or is it separate?

try extracting the subtitles from the source file, then delete the default subs and add it back to the source as an external sub file. Stupid way of doing it, but it sometimes works for subs that simply won't get added to a project

  6. I am having a problem creating motion thumbnails from time to time. It seems to occur more often with four titles.

When I watch the tools operate, I see that menu creation fails immediately, and muxman fails soon afterwards.

The problem is that there is no useful data in the log files and there are no scripts lying around for me to try it manually.

I have also tried the DVD creation process on the files one at a time (thinking there was something bad in the video stream) and they are all successful.

Any advise on how to debug / resolve?

    Regards,

    Jon

Do you have this matching log also?
    BatchMux log file <C:\Users\Jon\Desktop\DVDs TO BURN\TheTitle - SEASON 5, DISC 2_3_BatchMux.log>

Do not copy and paste the contents, upload the file instead

I'll see what else I can see

  10. I have deleted this log file as it has no useful information, so I will need to recreate.

But I can tell you that MuxMan fails because MenuPage1.m2v is empty.

That was my original issue: the menu creation process fails.

  12. I think if you can use the log to reconstruct the command used to create the menu, I can try it manually and post a screenshot of the failure information that flashed by (a few lines of red text.)

I will see if it's possible.
Else, it may be helpful to try and preserve some of the intermediate files.
I'm going to examine the logs to see if can get to the bottom of it - if not, I'm
    going to try and recreate

EDIT - this is the command that creates the menu m2v file
    Code:
    ffmpeg.exe -i "C:\Users\Jon\AppData\Local\Temp\TheTitle - SEASON 5, DISC 2_1_MenuPage1.avs" -threads 32 -aspect 16:9 -c:v mpeg2video -b:v 6000k -minrate 6000k -maxrate 6000k -bufsize 2000k -dc 10 -bf 2 -y "C:\Users\Jon\Videos\TheTitle - SEASON 5, DISC 2_1_MenuPage1.m2v"
I wonder if that -threads 32 is an issue?

  14. I will try to run the command stand-alone, but I have had no problems with 3 titles (and other 4 title projects.)

Hopefully the .avs script will hang around after unchecking those boxes...

    Further questions....
what is drive z:/, where your source files are? Network drive? USB attached?
Have you tried simplifying the path/file names to see if it affects the result? (Get rid of all special characters)

  16. The z:\\ drive is an external RAID drive with an eSATA interface. I use it all the time for all of my video sources.

I am copying all of the source files to a test directory on my c:\\ drive. This will create much shorter path names and remove the RAID from the equation.

I will keep you advised and post new logs in the event that the process fails again.

  17. Not surprisingly, the experiment failed. Logs attached...

  18. Any chance you can give me a command line to produce 'TEST DVD_MenuPage1.m2v'?

Since I see a quick flash of red text as this step (ffmpeg) attempts to run, I suspect there is some failure information there that is lost as the tool completes and the window closes.

If I can run this step stand-alone in a DOS window, the red text will be preserved and I can cut and paste it.

Yes, see post #4063 above, get the specifics from your corresponding log.
    Search for "DVD Menu Video"

  20. You may be on to something regarding the number of threads. I was able to run the ffmpeg command (sort of) and got the following:

[AVFilterGraph @ 4a39e100] Error initializing threading.
[AVFilterGraph @ 4a39e100] Error creating filter 'null'
    Error opening filters!
    Conversion failed!

I ran it again with -threads 16 (instead of 32) and got the following:

Error while opening encoder for output stream #0:0 - maybe incorrect parameters such as bit_rate, rate, width or height
    Conversion failed!

I suspect the error message from the second run is because I messed up a cut/paste somewhere.

I'm running again with multithreading disabled (from the Preferences/System/Enable Multithreading Encoding checkbox.) We'll see if that makes a difference.

  21. It appears to have failed the same way and the log file shows the same ffmpeg -threads 32 even with the Multithreading box unchecked.

Is there another way to affect the number of threads used by ffmpeg during menu creation?

Not as far as I know, it would require intervention from the programs author MrC, since it's generated
internally. Unfortunately haven't seen him in the forum in while.

If you want a second set of eyes to look at it, show the CMD box session
including the command issued and full response

This source script (the "-i" from the command) can be dropped into 32-bit virtualdub2, you may see further error messages.
Otherwise, if working, you see an image of the menu

  24. I dropped the TEST DVD avs source file into VirtualDub2 and got the menu:

Thumbs animate correctly when the avs script is played via VirtualDub2.

  25. Looking at your updated post #4072, I see your cmd dialog shows -threads 4. Was that generated via AVStoDVD or did you enter it manually?

I see it, but I don't know what's causing it. It's probably best to update Avisynth to this version:
    https://www.videohelp.com/download/AviSynthPlus_3.7.2_20220317_vcredist.exe
Just install it over the top, it will offer to backup your existing install, reply yes

If it still fails, uninstall and reinstall AVStoDVD from the installer package.

I've an old XP install that has Avisynth 2.60, I may see if I can recreate it later today

NO it's automatic - I have an old CPU. Did you try threads 4?

I tried threads 16 and it worked without issue.
Threads 32 gave me warning it was too high and was reducing to 30, but it ended normally

  28. Interesting! I tried it with threads 4 and it actually ran for a few frames. Then I got:

    Very strange behavior...

I will update the tool chain per your recommendation and try again.

Just as a side note: I have success with menus with 4+ motion thumbs in the past but I have also had failures like this one. I'd sure like to get to the root cause.

    UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE

I just did another test with threads 1 and it completed successfully. The result played perfectly, so it is definitely related to the number of threads and/or the memory they consume...

Perhaps it's something to do with the architecture of these newer CPU's. Maybe try an updated version of the 32bit FFmpeg

  30. Well, AVStoDVD likes to use its own versions of all of the tools -- that would mean replacing its version of ffmpeg with the newer version. I'm not sure what that might break...
