Hey,

I'm trying to add subtitles to my file and the font is always slightly running off the screen in the finished product. The thing is, when I click the five dashes in authoring/burning tab and fill in my own position value (so that the subtitle could be shown a bit higher), AVStoDVD doesn't reflect it and always forces it into the same default position. This is the only thing that doesn't work for me - changing font/size is functioning without problems. Already tried reinstalling it, subtitles are .srt format, so that shouldn't be problem either. Can anyone help? Thank you.

You discovered a quirk in the program, changes to any of the preferences do not get applied to the current project.

Open the program fresh. Set the size in the preferences/Authoring tab (eg. 14pt).
Select "save preferences as default" and OK out.
Add your movie source file and subtitle, select "hard coded subs" on the project/subtitle tab as you did before

You are the first user I've ever seen use the hard coded subs option, usually DVD's stick to selectable subs

It works, thank you! The thing is hard coded subs look much smoother on my finished projects, so I'm usually prefer this option.

Update: It works only when I don't force the subs, but I guess that can't be achieved, so I'll have to suffer slightly jagged subs. Still, thank you! (just mentioning, if anyone would come across the same problem)

Win10, avstodvd 2.8.9. Next page disappears when editing DVD menu, have to select preview again for next page to appear again and able to click on it.

Win7, avstodvd 2.8.9. If you delete the audio track, leaving just video only, avstodvd cannot save the avs script, it leaves it blank. The next time you load the save file, the avs script is blank.

For the Win10 menu problem I cannot help you, but since it looks like you also have access to a Win7 installation, my only advice is to use Win7 for running AVStoDVD...

The Win7 problem for titles without audio already came up here 2 years ago. See this and the following posts:

MrC released two hotfixes after this discussion, and converting sources without audio now works well. But you are correct, in such cases the A2D saved project file does not contain the AVS script.

The only workaround I can think of is to copy and paste the script into a separate file, and after loading the project file paste this saved script into A2D.

AVStoDVD_288_Hotfix_190115.zip no longer available to download. Since _MrC_ didn't implement it in 2.8.9, will it work with 2.8.9? I don't want other problems to appear after applying it. Should I just use the workaround?

These hotfixes for version 2.8.8 have been integrated into version 2.8.9, no need to download them. Saving the AVS script for titles without an audio track were not part of these hotfixes, they just enabled converting titles without audio at all (which did not work before). So yes, if you need to save the project files for titles without any audio track you need to use the workaround, i.e. save the AVS script separately.

Another and maybe easier workaround is to prepare a short (several seconds) audio track which consists of pure silence. Then instead of just removing the original audio you can import this silent audio track just after removing the original audio. It does not matter that the silent audio track is much shorter than the video, AVStoDVD will take care of this. A sample silent audio file is attached...

Hi,

I downloaded and installed AVStoDVD just a few days ago.
I have transferred some old videos from camcorder to PC as MP4 files, these play fine through both VLC and Windows Movie Maker.
However when I create a video using AVStoDVD the audio is out of synch by 6 or 7 seconds.
I have read through many threads for the same issue and tried many of the settings suggested but still have the same issue.
I do have FFDshow installed via K Lite but have blacklisted AVStoDVD to make sure they aren't used.
All preferences are set to LAV filters.

As I have said I have tried many different configurations but as of yet with no difference.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm no expert on this, I'm wondering if using VBR instead of CBR is the problem?

If you know how many seconds it's lagging you could change the milliseconds, 7 seconds = 7000 milliseconds

Tried changing just Video encoder to FFmpeg CBR 1-pass and I get the following error:-

Warning! Title 1 output Video duration (00:00:00) is shorter than expected duration (00:33:42).

Can you explain where I change the milliseconds as that will be worth a try.

Does that setting not just change the audio time i.e from 33:41 minutes to 7 seconds. The delay still remains at 0ms

I don't have a good way to test it, does the video time equal the audio time in AVS?

Another option, strip the audio out of your source with Audacity and play around with the timing?

Could you upload your source file to the cloud somewhere? dropbox, onedrive etc so that I may test it on my system?

Until then I found some problems in your log file:

What caused this discrepancy is hard to say without a sample, but you should first correct some other things:

1. For audio encoding you use FFmpeg Safe Mode. Why? Only use this as the last straw if everything else fails.

2. You have specified FFAudio Source as your audio source filter. But for video you use A2DSource which picks DSS2Mod as the source filter. Bad idea to mix different source filters for video and audio. Either use A2DSource for both, or use FFMpegSource for both.

3. You have installed ffdshow, but specified not to use it. The problem may be the Haali Splitter which is usually installed with ffdshow. If you use LAV Filters then you should also use the LAV Splitter. The only foolproof way to enforce this is to uninstall the Haali Splitter.

4. K-Lite can bork your filters setup even if you do not use the filters which were installed by it. This is really hard to troubleshoot.

To change the audio 'delay' you chose 'Edit Title' and select 'avisynth'. Turn of 'auto' and check the 'Delay Audio' button. Follow on-screen instructions from there.

I have also uninstalled the K Lite 32 bit pack and reinstalled Lav Filters on there own.
AVStoDVD now only loads Lav filters.
However I still get the same audio delay.

With the exception of the removal of K lite this is pretty much where I started from I believe.

I have tried playing and advancing Audio however this results in the Audio shifting as its playing, so in early frames to far ahead.

That sample - the one as above - can be uploaded here as an attachment.


Re-reading the logs the audio has no delay at the point of input nor at the point of output - the instructions I refered to would only apply when there was a delay in the original source.


Allow us to play with the sample to see if we can duplicate the issue. Or (hopefully) even fix it. But I see some potential issues with the source which could mean disappointment even when the audio is fixed. But rather than dwell on these right now let's get our sweaty paws on the sample

How was this tape captured? Through the analog cables (S-video or composite)?

Why is the source file to AVStoDVD 24 fps? Analog capture in the UK (PAL TV) should 25 fps

Seems this is a digital DV camera, transfer through a Firewire port would be better

Might I suggest you start a new thread with this issue. Your issues really stem from the capture to PC process and are not directly linked to this software.

My current Motherboard doesn't have a Firewire port, I also read that Windows 10 doesn't support Firewire.
So although I have the firewire cable and a port in the camera I couldn't use that option.

I used the alternative AV out port via a 3.5mm jack and split to the Red, White and Yellow cables.
Then plugged those into their counterparts on the USB capture stick - AV820.

The resulting MP4 is pretty much the same quality as on the Camera and the audio is in Synch.

No idea why the fps is 24

I captured using VLC, initially the capture had no sound at all but changing the Audio codec to MPEG 4 Audio (AAC) resolved that.

It may be usable, but you're not getting the actual digital data that's on the tape, therefore it's degraded.
Why don't you see if you can recapture at 25 fps using your current method or look into buying
a Firewire card for your PC?

You're present source is severely compromised, 24 Vs. 25 fps, giving a likely jerk to the footage every second,
and progressive instead of interlaced, giving damaged (blurred) colour information and loss of motion fluidity
