    Just did the same tests under Win7-64bit. Renamed the source files and folders to every weird format I could think of. No problem, HCenc and AVStoDVD handled it nicely...

    Looks like something is wrong at your end. I am not familiar with Windows 8.1, so I cannot comment on this. Maybe uninstall AVStoDVD completely (including the registry key) and reinstall from scratch.

    Good luck

    I've seen similar spaces appear before that were not really there, some bug in the forum software. To make sure, perhaps the OP shouold ATTACH the log file,
    then we can open it in Notepad

    Many thanks for your continued support

    I did not set up the folder options so known extensions will not be visible in Explorer is the default setting, so I have made them visible now and deleted the extra mp4 at the end..
    I have not tried to force FFmpeg as my encoder yet..

    OK very good of you to try that under Win7-64bit. So yes it looks like my end
    I have tried the uninstall and reg key removal and also have tried earlier versions too...

    There is a space in the file name before the . (period). But similarly to manolito, when I create this condition
    mine runs fine
    Video = A2DVideoSource("C:\Users\Mark\Desktop\New folder (2)\MyVideo .mp4",

    When the project is loaded, at the top select codecs/build directshow filters graph and then try the play button.
    Does your movie play ?

  7. Is A2DVideoSource a good function to use? When I google it, only MrC doom9 post came up. https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=142948

    I always use the alternatives.

    strictly speaking the A2Dvideosource and A2Daudiosource selectors are not independent source filters. This is a "smart" function
    written by the author of AVStoDVD, and under the covers it picks one of the well known source filters, depending on various factors.

    This is why you don't find much about it, it belongs to this program only

    Thanks again
    I removed the space before the . (period). also made no change.

    codecs/build directshow filters graph and that plays fine there and can be fast/forward with no problems..

    Everything looks fine until HCenc is called to do the encoding. Very strange...

    Does this also happen with different source files, or is it just this specific file?

    I do remember some older posts by users who could not get HCenc working properly under 64-bit Win7, Win8.1 or Win10. I have no idea if this was solved, I believe some of these users switched to using FFmpeg.

    also happens with different source files,

    But I have resolved the issue
    .
    It was caused by a incompatible Anti-virus program! I remembered trying out a new 1 a few weeks ago so I deleted that and AVStoDVD works again just like it use too.

    Thanks for everyone's help in trying to solve the puzzle cheers guys.

    I have been using AVStoDVD for a few months now, changing from ConvertXtoDVD 4 because AVStoDVD allows me to maximize bitrate within a relatively short conversion time. Recently I converted a movie and there ended up being NO AUDIO on the finished .iso. My settings haven't changed so I can't understand what the problem might be. I'm going to upload the log as an attachment. I've seen others upload the entire text here as opposed to an attachment. Please let me know if that is the preferred way...

    Both methods are fine, no problem...

    Your source audio is in the AC3+ format, but this is not compatible for DVDs. Your settings specify to keep DVD compliant audio, but AVStoDVD falsely assumes that AC3+ is DVD compliant which it is not.

    You should try to disable the setting "Keep compliant audio" to force AVStoDVD to reencode the audio track.

    Good luck

    Hi manolito,
    I never heard of ac3+
    guess this is something for MrC to address ....

    AC3+ is the same as E-AC3 or DD+. You can find infos about it on Wikipedia.

    And yes, MrC should fix A2D so it no longer will accept AC3+ as DVD-compliant. LAV Audio source and FFAudioSource have no problem decoding AC3+.

    Are you talking about HCenc running under AVStoDVD or is it a general HCenc issue?

    You know that you cannot just paste a script like yours into the "AviSynth" tab of AVStoDVD, do you? A2D uses a different syntax like:
    Audio = Audio.MyAudioFilter
    Video = Video.MyVideoFilter
    AudioDub(Video,Audio)
    Regular AVS scripts which use the implicit "Last" variable need to be modified before you can use them in AVStoDVD. Or you can import such scripts like this:
    Last = Video
    Import("My_AVS_Script")
    Video = Last
    Another thing which may not work with AVStoDVD is multithreading. A2D requires AviSynth 2.60 or higher, AFAIK this does not include any MT versions or AVS+ or any 64-bit versions.

    To find out if it is just HCenc or if it is your script in general you can specify FFmpeg as your encoder and see what happens using the same script.

    Cheers

  19. It's A2D. I didn't copy the script into A2D tab. I imported the AVS script into A2D source title section. It started encoding fine but after an hour, HCenc crashes.

    I will try using ffmpeg but ffmpeg doesn't have VBR 2 pass option in A2D. I will also uninstall Avisynth MT and see if it solves the crash.

    I will try DVDStyler too if it accepts AVS scripts.

    Edit: ffmpeg CBR 1-pass works without crashing. I enabled HQ. Is it as good as HCenc VBR 2-pass?

    You need to install my FF_VBR plugin to get 2-pass VBR in AVStoDVD. Download here:
    https://sourceforge.net/projects/avstodvd/files/avstodvd_addons/Plugins/ff_vbr%20(ffmp...0VBR%20modes)/
    Make sure to read the PDF manual for installation instructions...

    Loading AVS scripts as the source always was a little shaky for me in AVStoDVD. Maybe try the method from my previous post to import your script into the A2D AviSynth tab.

    In DVDStyler this is not much different IMO. I never had much luck getting AVS scripts working as the source. For the FFmpeg quality there is no difference if you use my VBR plugin in A2D or if you use DVDStyler (DVDStyler has my FF_VBR plugin integrated transparently).

    The default AVStoDVD FFmpeg CBR method only gives good results for very high bitrates. Even when using the HQ params it is still CBR, and it does not use any B-Frames which makes it much less effective.

  21. Thanks for that FF_VBR plugin. I will use ffmpeg 2-pass VBR from now on instead of HCenc 2-pass VBR.

    This code works but HCenc still crashes, so I will use ffmpeg for CPU intensive Avisynth scripts.

    Code:
    Video = Import("C:\MyScript.avs")
    Audio = DirectShowSource("C:\video.avi", video=false)

    Last = Video
    Video = Last

    Video = Video.ConvertToYV12()

    AudioDub(Video, Audio)

  22. I got this error when wavi.exe starts, "avutil-49.dll is missing." I will try installing A2D. My impression is it has something to do with ffms2/ffmpeg.

    Reinstalling A2D gave same error, so i downloaded avutil-49.dll and put it in my Windows directory. A new error came up, "avcodec-51.dll is missing". so i will download that too.

    Downloading avcodec-51.dll gave me new error, "The procedure entry point av_crc04C11DB7 could not be located in the dynamic link library avutil-49.dll."

    Changing to ffmpeg+Aften also gave same error.

    Fixed my problem by using a backup copy of avisynth plugins folder. I'm sure it has something to do with ffms2.dll

    I don't think so...

    ffms2 has absolutely nothing to do with avutil or avcodec DLLs. To me it looks like you mixed my current FF_VPR plugin with an older version of my Wavi_Mod plugin.

    This will not work because I recently revamped the Wavi_Mod plugin so it no longer requires that the AVStoDVD executable has to be patched. If you install both plugins, they need to be from the same package.

    But let's talk about ffms2 first. A2D uses the C-plugin by quot27 (located in the AVStoDVD\Lib folder), and having the regular ffms2 plugin in the AviSynth\Plugins folder means asking for trouble. If you need ffms2 in your AviSynth\plugins folder it should be the same version which A2D uses. Download from here:
    https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1783312#post1783312
    and put ffms2.dll and ffms2.avsi into the AviSynth\Plugins folder. This will avoid possible conflicts. (You need to use the 32-bit versions)

    Now for the Wavi_mod plugin:
    The easiest way to get rid of older plugin versions is to download the No-Install version of AVStoDVD. Delete everything in your current AVStoDVD\Wavi folder, then extract the original content of this folder from the downloaded A2D archive and put it into the AVStoDVD\Wavi folder. If you are not sure if your A2D executable is patched, extract AVStoDVD.exe from the downloaded archive and put it into the A2D root folder.

    If you then decide that you want the Wavi_mod plugin, download the current version here:
    https://sourceforge.net/projects/avstodvd/files/avstodvd_addons/Plugins/Wavi_mod%20(Al...0Normalizing)/

    Make sure to read the instructions in the included PDF, the install procedure has changed significantly from the older version.

    This is the problem because I have never downloaded your Wavi mod but now I will since it improves A2D.

  25. Was surprised that when using HCenc 2-pass, a 90 min video would exceed the chosen DVD-5 size. Fortunately this happens once in a blue moon.

    And yes, MrC should fix A2D so it no longer will accept AC3+ as DVD-compliant. LAV Audio source and FFAudioSource have no problem decoding AC3+.

    Time to refresh A2D is coming...

    Guys, I really have few moments to dedicate to A2D. Thanks for your continuous support. Do you remember other fixes to be applied to release 2.8.6?

    Bye

    Hi MrC,

    good to hear from you after quite some time...
    I hope that you and your family are fine, summer vacation is ahead, hopefully you will get some time for relaxing...

    Seems like conversions to DVD are getting out of fashion quickly, neither the A2D nor the DVDStyler threads get much traffic these days. Whatever, I still use A2D regularly, the E-AC3 thing is basically the only thing I can think of which needs fixing. There are still some folks who have trouble getting HCenc to work reliably, but I cannot reproduce these issues.

    All the best, take care

    Hi MrC
    The one thing I thought of, and it came up again recently, HCenc and MotionProtectedFPS don't get along well at all.
    Some guy was running his project and it was still running after 10 hours. Had him change it to ChangeFPS and the whole thing was done in an hour.
    Perhaps something should be done if this combination comes up? M.P.FPS works fine with FFmpeg

    As is the case with manolito and some others, I still use A2D often, I've just upgraded to 2.86. The only thing I changed was the few lines
    manolito came up with in a2dSource.avsi to swap directshowsource with DSS2. Although I installed LAV into Windows 10, I did not prioritize them,
    DSS2 allows the existing filters to work just fine. In my mind, this is a very useful mod.

    I came across something I never saw before today, a file with compliant audio but with an audio delay of 168ms according to mediainfo.
    When AVStoDVD processes it and by default, the audio is kept as-is since it's compliant, the resulting DVD has audio that is not synced properly.

    Forcing A2d to re-encode the audio fixes the problem, as well as manually cutting the audio ac3 by 168 ms in DelayCut and using that audio in A2D.

  30. Why is directshowsource a lot faster than avisource in building thumbnails preview?
