Hello and thanks for this great forum. I have read and researched much here for the past few days, but I've not yet seen the specific answers I need. My apologies if I have missed old posts on this topic. My questions are hopefully basic and straightforward. I'm using the following software - RipIt4Me, DVD Decrypter, and ImgBurn. So -
    1. When burning (and not compressing) a DVD that requires an 8.5 GB blank, is it best, from the very beginning using either RipIt4Me and/or DVD Decrypter - to create it as an ISO file, or as many VOB folders (the "full movie" option in RipIt)??

Most of the time, ISO works fine, but for longer DVD's, I get the old "freeze" at the layer break. I have then re-decrypted as VOB folders, burned with Nero (not a good option I know) and the DVD seems to handle the break fine.

Since I would rather burn as an ISO, and at this point I prefer NOT to re-author or compress - what are some sugestions to improve my success with the layer break problem? Various settings I would like help on are these -

    2. File splitting method (option in DVD Decrypt). Better to turn OFF, leave on AUTO, or another setting??

    3. Layer break setting (DVD Decrypt) - better to leave as "optimal" or set to Manual and enter a volume number?

    4. In ImgBurn - "General" Tab, two options at the bottom - "check don't update IFO files" and "check seamless". The default is to leave these unchecked and I do. should they be changed?

    5. In ImgBurn - "Write" tab, the "use layer jump recording" option. I leave this unchecked. Should it be checked?

And last but not least, if I do manually enter a volume layer break number in DVD Decrypter, then when I'm ready to burn with ImgBurn - do I have to use their option to do this again ("Write" tab option) or will ImgBurn automatically find it?

As otherwise I get perfect copies, I feel my problem is due to one of these simple settings. The ISO's sometimes don't get the layer break right for some reason. Sometimes they do. Go figure.
Any help is much appreciated and hopefully will assist other newbies with these common problems.

Use IMGBURN to read/write your DL media. DVD DECRYPTER and RIPIT4ME is no longer updated. FYI IMGBURN & DVD DECRYPTER is made by the same author LightningUK. Use IMGBURN and you'll have no problems. If you aren't using VERBATIM DVD+R DUAL LAYER media then you can also have playback problems. That's the best DL media to use.

Here's a guide for DL burning.

....to create it as an ISO file, or as many VOB folders....
Reading that, you may not be aware, but the ISO is the same thing as the VOBs, IFOs, BUPs. They are just in a ISO container. You don't need to re-rip, just extract them. If you use ImgBurn, I don't know any real advantage to making a ISO, as ImgBurn will just extract them back to VOBs, etc., when it burns the disc.

And I would use ImgBurn to burn. It does a much better job of setting a layer break. You can add a VIDEO_TS folder in 'Build' mode or burn as a ISO. Decrypter is quite a bit out of date, compared to ImgBurn for burning DL discs.
