Hopefully this will be simple query to answer!
Using AGK to convert vobs to avi's. I'm playing them on my Neo Media player.
AGK is producing great files, but they do not fill the full screen of my 37'' Tosh LCD.
They are only a small letter box on the middle of the screen.
I think it must be the resolution of the avi tha AGK is creating.

Can anyone tell me what settings I need to specify/amend so that I can use the full size of my TV!

    Cheers

No, I think it must have something to do with the settings of either your media player or your TV. Try something. Open the AVI in VDubMod. Do you see black all around the four sides, as you do when watching on your TV? No? Then the black is being added by either your player or your TV. It's nothing to do with the AVI that AutoGK created. Do you have other AVIs from other sources that do fill the screen? Maybe use the Zoom on your remote control.

    Oh!?!
Opened it in VDubMod as you suggested and as you also rightly said there weren't any black bars arount the sides!

I have opened up other AVIs on my media player and I can't find any that will fill the screen! I have zoomed on every setting my TC has but still can't anywhere near a full screen.
The TV is a Tosh 37C3000PG LCD REGZA TV 37. the media player is Neo Keops 160gb If this can shed any light!?!

    cheers
    for quick response

  4. Note that many (most?) movies are wider than 16:9 so even when everything is working right you will still see black bars top and bottom.

Agreed, even my DVDs play with black bars top and bottom, but I can zoom in to get rid of these. I can't with AVI's?
All I basically want is an AVI that I can play full screen (or as near to it as possible). Even zoomed right in there is still a 4inch or so black bar top and bottom?
It just seems a waste of a big TV!!!

    cheers again

  6. Do objects within the picture appear to have the right aspect ratio? Do people look tall and skinny, short and fat, or about right?

  8. How are you zooming your DVDs? A zoom control on your TV? Can't you do the same thing with your AVI files?

If you have filled the TV from side to side then you have put the entire image on the screen. Zooming in to fill the screen top to bottom gives you less picture, not more.

So originally you were displaying the AVI with black around all 4 sides. But using the zoom allowed you to fill the screen left to right, and now you're complaining about the remaining black above and below the picture of a 2.35:1 movie? You're watching the movie the way it's meant to be seen and you're whining about wasted space? Some people just don't deserve to have widescreen TV sets. Don't you remember how much more black there was above and below your widescreen movies when you had your old 4:3 TV set?

If I misunderstood you from the beginning, and the movie always filled the screen left to right, but you wanted to chop off the sides to completely fill the screen with active video, then this whole thread is a waste of everyone's time.

You may want to verify you have your dvd player setup correctly. Most DVD players require you to setup the TV screen type (4:3 or 16:9) for proper display. Having the wrong output type selected will create display issues.

You will still have many movies that won't fill the screen properly of a 16:9 TV. 4:3 content, for example, will display with black bars on the left/right or can be stretched to fill the screen. Most widescreen content will display with black bars on the top/bottom of the screen, only video in 16:9 format will completely fill the screen.

As to your avi playback problems, there are more factors to verify and consider. You need to verify the actual image after encoding (as you did above) and it's possible the AR flag is incorrect.

In your case, it sounds like you are experiencing more than one of the issues above. It would be best to start experimenting from the beginning using commercial dvd's. Once everything is setup and displaying properly, then you can begin troubleshooting the avi file issues.

    Hope this helps.

Get rid of AGK, the tool ain't even capable of keeping the movie together, you will loose width contents after conversion. No wonder the author stopped ******* up his batchfile AKA Auto Gordian Knot. It sucks.

  14. You have no idea what you're talking about. If you don't like it, don't use it. Thousands of people use it successfully and if for some reason you can't, then maybe post a log for an unsuccessful encode, try and explain what's wrong, and maybe someone can help. Badmouthing something without giving any reasons or evidence doesn't speak very well of you; nor does your writing style, full of vulgar language and bad English.
