  1. I usually use DVD Shrink to burn movies. But when this option doesn't work, I use RipIt3Me, which I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) aligns with DVD Decrypter to burn movies.

Someone told me about FixVTS. Do I need this program with RipIt4Me to work?

    Thanks!

RipIt4Me has FixVTS integrated (read the changelog).

But Ripit4Me may not work with all newer movies but you can then use LATEST dvdfab decrypter for those dvds and then shrink with DVD SHrink.

RipIt4Me will call FixVTS if it is there.

RipIt4Me was designed to utilise the facility built into DVD Decrypter to beat the current ArCoSS protection by creating a file that tells Decrypter where the protection is situated. This is the PSL file. After ripping out the protection however, the structure of the resulting DVD may be unsound, and unable to be loaded into DVD Shrink. FixVTS scans the structure and repairs it so that Shrink (and other programs) will be able to work with it.

Note : RipIt4Me, FixVTS and DVD Decrypter all fell victim to the bullying legal tactics of a certain video protection provider, even though both FixVTS and DVD Decrypter have valid uses beyond copying protected DVDs. None of them, or DVD Shrink, have been updated in some time, or will be again.

FixVTS is excellent for those/some stubborn DVD Recorder discs like those from an old Philips DVDR985 with more than one title on the disc.

If you don't have the latest version, yes, you should DL it and use it with ripit4me, but if you can find them, you should be able to get the latest version with it INCLUDED.

Or you could DL one program to rip any newer disc to your HDD, DVDFab HD Decrypter, then use shrink.

So DVDdecrypter by itself didn't do the trick? It was just something that read the DVD and couldn't pass the ArCoSS protection? I'm going to use DVD Shrink to shrink it, but I need something to break the protection. My questions are:

    1) Can I just download only RipIt4Me with FixVTS embedded to do the trick?
    2) Where does DVDDecrypter come into play with these two other programs?
    3) DVDDecrypter doesn't have something that beats the ArCoSS protection? You need RipIt4Me?

I guess I am just trying to understand why you need so many programs (DVDDecrypter+RipIt4Me+FixVTS). There isn't a program that has a protection decrypter and repair program all in one?

For free? No. There are all-in-one programs you can buy (like DVD Fab) or you can use DVD Fab Decrypter (which is free) with DVD Shrink.

  11. So DVD Decrypter by itself does what?

These days very little. When it first came out it removed the copy protection that was then in use. The studios got wise to that and began adding extra layers of copy protection to the point where even the original discs won't play on some machines!

It does have a legitimate use in that it enables people to make copies very simply using the iso read/write function.

You have to obtain DVD Decrypter separately.

DVD Decrypter is still useful for other features it has, including ripping directly to elementary streams at the title or chapter level, ripping stubborn home created discs amongst other things.

I think it's PGCedit that removes the copy protection using the PSL plug-in then FixVTS cleans up the mess left by removing the dummy files? As the PSL plug-in is no longer updated anything which relies on it now has a very limited shelf life.
