hi,
i hope everyone knows Neuview player already coz it's so awesome!
althought i have a problem which i didnt have before i reformatted the pc so i guess it's a codec problem.
ok.. so when i play a .avi movie with neuview it just hangs. it just shows this at the start:
- video: XVID MPEG-4
- sound: Nero 2
and then just a black screen. althought when i slide the seeker, it shows the picture, but it does not "play".
and by the way, when i play .rmvb movies it works. it's just the .avi ones that are not playing
what do you think?
thanks for reading man.

Try installing ffdshow. It can decode most common video formats. Or if you just need Xvid, install that codec. https://www.videohelp.com/tools/XviD_Codec
Do not install any codec packs.
And welcome to our forums. -
thanks for the quick reply man.
i already have xvid codec (koepi) and the FFdshow (codec pack?) before i posted.
btw: after testing some more videos i found out another thing that might cause this.
- i have another .avi file
- i played it with neuview
- neuview showed:
video: XVID MPEG-4
sound: ACM Wrapper
- and this one WORKS FINE!
the only difference that i see is the Audio Codec. because the audio codec of the video that is NOT working is Nero 2 (as shown by neuview).
do you think that's the problem? how do i uninstall that Nero 2 audio codec?
Thanks alot. -
Are you sure you have it installed? If it's not working/playing, I'd tend to believe first that you don't have a codec installed for it. Use the latest version of GSpot on the AVI file that you mentioned in the first post, and check the audio stream section - it'll tell you whether you do have support for the 'Nero 2' codec installed, or not.
(Additional note: I believe Nero audio would probably just be AAC, anyway, so check ffdshow (under "Audio Decoder Configuration") and see if it has anything set to decode AAC.)If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them? -
You should have posted the entire GSpot window for the non-working video.
All that small excerpt says is that the video has an MP3 audio stream, which the player should (theoretically) have no problem playing. If that's indeed psbke--02.avi, it sounds like the Neuview player might be confused, a bit. Does the video work if you play it in Windows Media Player?

Ok here's the whole window man
I experimented some more. I played the non-working video with Neuview, I changed Neuview's settings and remove the audio:
And it worked. but with no audioso that means that the audio is the problem? the decoder?
i don't have windmediaplayer, so i played it with VLC and it worked fine (maybe because VLC uses its own codecs).
Thanks again man. -
Did you uninstall Windows Media Player?
Windows should be able to handle the MP3 audio in that AVI (it has an MP3 codec by default, though I don't know if removing Media Player would also remove that codec), as far as I know. I'm not sure if the Neuview player would have any problems playing high-bitrate or VBR MP3s; those are the only other things that I could imagine giving the player problems, but I really doubt it.If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them? -
I don't know why i don't have windows media player. but can't i just install a specific audio codec so i can make it work with neuview?
or any other ways to fix this? -
Hmm... you could have one of those versions of XP that I've heard do not include Windows Media Player.
You haven't installed any codec packs in the past, have you? (No, this isn't a recommendation to do so, although updating ffdshow wouldn't hurt.)
ffdshow has options in the Audio Decoder section for MP3 (as well as MP1 and MP2), so you might see what they're set to. Also, you can try installing the DirectShow and ACM versions of the Lame MP3 codec.
I'm still wondering if it's not the Neuview player itself having problems with that video, though. You might try using Media Player Classic (note: this is not the same as Windows Media Player) to see if it plays the video with no problems - it should use the codecs already installed on the system, just like Neuview should be... but I'd think the MP3 codec that usually comes with the system and/or ffdshow shouldn't have any problem with that particular MP3 audio stream.
