Hi all,
I've been searching this site but it looks like there is no freeware anymore for making DVDs out of avi and mpg files? If there is, could someone please clue me in? (The easier the better, because I'm new at this.)
Thanks much,
Gail
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays!

There's lots.

I like GuiforDVDAuthor

Very simple, one click, decent quality: try divxtodvd
Look for the older, free version. No menus, but you can load several AVIs and other videos and make a single DVD, no menu.
Then burn with ImgBurn.
Note that if your DVD player supports DivX, it's much faster to just burn a data disk with the AVI files (most AVIs are DivX, though not all). -
There is plenty.
DivxtoDVD works, but is getting long in the tooth and has some bad habits when working with NTSC material.
FAVC produces very nice output, converts pretty much anything, and can also fo format conversion (NTSC to PAL or PAL to NTSC) using the pulldown method. All you need to know about the pulldown method is that it is the only reliable software method for format conversion.
DVD Flick is also easy to use, a bit faster than FAVC, and can join multi-part avi files into single DVD titles (note : I have not done this myself, just heard tell)Read my blog here.

Thank you all so much! All I could find mention of yesterday was divxtodvd but every link for it re-directed to the new commercial version.
Thanks to your help, it looks like I'll be able to do this after all. (I don't have a stand alone dvd player yet but I want to burn some for friends who do.)
Best of the best to you all,

Hi Gail, when you click on divxtodvd, you'll be directed to ConvertXtoDVD,scroll down to "Other Info" and DL'd the free one....
Besides DVDFlick and FAVC that were mentioned and which I use,try SVCD2DVD, checkout the offer at the moment,I hope it still applies....use this link...

Hi t0nee1, and Freebird,
Thank you!!!!! I got both apps! Thanks so much! Yes, that offer still applies, not much to pay if I like the software.
I guess all that's left now is to wait for my (hopefully good) DVD-Rs to arrive, and start learning how to use these apps. (Then I'll probably come back here in shame, not being able to figure something out, but I hope not
Thank you so much!!!!! Wishing you all 100% good health and happiness,
