I'm trying to capture using Virtualdub in my account under XP Pro, but want to be able to let my kids log into their accounts to using XP's user switching. However whenever I try to switch users, the capture stops.

Is there any way to prevent this?

    thanks,

    Kevin

  2. If Virtualdub is using DirectShow for the capture and there is a window showing what is being captured then this can happen. It's a Microsoft thing.

Can you reproduce the problem just by pressing Ctrl-Atl-Del and then going back to where you were? If so, it almost certainly is the same issue we have had to program around in one of our programs.

For some reason, when the video mode changes and there is a window showing the video, DirectShow restarts what ever it was doing. Specifically, it happens when the program is using the "Video Mixing Renderer" for the video window.

I don't know enough about VirtualDub to know if you can change it to use a different renderer for the video (that's what our program does). If VirtualDub is relying on the DirectShow subsystem to provide the renderer filter automatically, then the only way around it is to unregister the "VMR9" filter from the system.

Perhaps someone more familiar with the inner workings of VirtualDub can confirm/deny my suspicions.

Video capture , even if it was to work via this method , would still have issues .

Video rendering and similar work loads under this condition , no problem .

Considering the system specs listed ... do not do it .
