I am using Vegas 7.0 and have had success in the past rendering both the audio (.ac3) and video (.mpeg2) and authorizing in DVD Architect. This time around after rendering the audio I get no sound. I checked the audio using the seperate program when I didn't hear it in DVD Architect preview mode. The only difference with this project is I have 4 audio channels (1 - camera audio, and 3 audio tracks for music that are seperated to controlling the dB level).

Is there some restriction on the amount of audio channels that can be rendered using the .ac3 format? If so, how can I get around the issue of needing control over my music volume levels in comparison to the main audio?

    Thanks for any assistance.

AFAIK you can have unlimited audio tracks in a Vegas mix. I know I certainly haven't hit any limits yet. AC3 has a maximum of 6 channels when you output (5 plus the LFE), however these come from the mix of all your tracks.

First thing to check would be if you have muted any track or all of your tracks on the timeline.

Second thing to check would be on the render page - are you rendering the whole project, or a loop region. It is very easy to set a region accidentally, and then render a lot less than you though you would.

guns1inger, no tracks are solo and there is no region as far as I can see that is set (if you mean a highlighted section of the overall video, no).

I did some experimenting and it appears I have lost all ability to render using .ac3 I tried .pca and all worked well except for the too large a file to fit my DVD.

Any solution to get back my .ac3 capabilities without having to reinstall my Vegas program?

Reinstalling only takes a couple of minutes, so it is a viable option.

Otherwise, you can encode the PCM audio to AC3 using aften and EncWav2AC3. It will take 6 channel PCM files as input.

As for other options, perhaps the Sony forums have an answer.

gunslinger, thanks for the quick reply.

I have looked in the drop-down menu and I don't see the .pcm option? I tried finding it when changing the "template" but that doesn't have it either.

By the way, I use the "DVD Architect NTSC video stream" template as I use the chapter markers feature.
