Can anyone explain what the advantage of getting a macrovision DVD player? In addition, it seems easy to find a region free DVD player. Is there any hackable macrovision DVD player in the US store right now?

If you wanted to connect a DVD player to a VCR, it would need to be Macrovision free. Many people still lack component inputs on their TVs because good old CRT technology lasts for years and years and years....

Back when DVD players were new-ish, many people could only hook them up through their VCRs. NOW there are plenty of other alternatives, but back when it was all new...

These days there's no real reason for it. Who would tape a DVD?
Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

The only advantage that I am aware of is having the ability to record to record a dvd which has the macrovision bit set to "on" to a video tape. I am not aware of any currently "hackable" macrovision off dvd players in retail stores. There were a number of them in the past.
