Would it be possible to put SD video on a HD DVD/Blu-ray? Because it would be nice to have a full season of 24 on a triple layer HD DVD or a dual layer Blu-ray disc.

Yes it would. In fact almost all the extras on a so-called high-definition movie release are still in standard definition. It would be especially useful for those older TV series where no HD release is possible. You still wouldn't get an entire series on one disc but they would at least fit in a single box. At present if you have even one faulty disc in a set you have to return the entire box to get a replacement. That is as big a hassle for us dealers as it is for our customers.

Not at this time. Neither standard supports DVD frames per second. Current DVD uses either 29.97 fps (NTSC) or 25 fps (PAL) and while both formats do (according to the specs) support DVD resolutions (720x480 NTSC and 720x576 PAL), both formats require frame rates of either 60 fps or 50 fps. So you'd have to find a good way to double your DVD frame rates and make it look OK. You'd still have to author the disc as either BluRay or HD-DVD. There's no way to burn standard DVD format to BluRay or HD-DVD discs just like you can't take a blank DVD-R and turn it into a giant SVCD disc.

Consumer burnable HD-DVD discs are theoretical at this time. As far as I know only BluRay actually has burners and blank discs available for consumers to use.
