    I am new to the forum but not a total newbie to conversion.

    I ma having problems getting a clip in sync - I am quite used to exporting audio to an uncompressed wavm then remuxing with VirtualDub/mod to correct problems with audio tracks but this one has me stumped.

    The clip is a TV show episode - in avicodec it shows as;

    297 MB, 765 Kbps, 23.976 fps, 624*352 (16:9), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4, Supported
    52 MB, 134 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = Lame MP3, Supported

    I normally rip the wav with goldwav and them remux using Lame 3.71 to a 128 CBR - I check that the audio and video files are the same length in Virtualdub/mod - I set the video to Direct Stream Copy- they are ususally within a smidge of each other - when played on the PC these are always perfectly synced but on my stand alone (skworth 3650) they are playing way out of sync now.

    Because of the terrible problems I have been having with these files I decided to try totally recoding one to test. I ripped the audio to a wav then set the Video to reencode in a 2 pass xvid (codec is xvid 1.1 Final according to Add/Remove) - lame was lameACM-3.97 I believe. This did not produce a file that played any different - still way out of sync.

    I have suspected the player but it seems to play other files fine - for instance a file identified like this;
    Video : 542 MB, 1529 Kbps, 25.0 fps, 640*272 (2.21:1), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4, Supported
    Audio : 56 MB, 160 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = Lame MP3, Supported

    this one;
    Video : 446 MB, 1098 Kbps, 25.0 fps, 720*416 (16:9), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4, Supported
    Audio : 53 MB, 132 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = Lame MP3, Supported

    and this;
    Video : 301 MB, 772 Kbps, 23.976 fps, 624*352 (16:9), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4, Supported
    Audio : 49 MB, 128 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = Lame MP3, Supported

    So it seems to handle non standard audio OK.

    I am not sure where to go from here - any ideas would be really welcome !

    Thanks

    Which type of out of sync? Gradually changing or stays the same the full length of the video? Or worse, a combination of both?

    Besides VBR audio, missing frames, bad joins and cuts can cause sync problems. Or bad PAL<>NTSC conversions.

    And welcome to our forums.

    VBR MP3 is almost always to blame for this, but I've seen a few Divx files that had this problem and like the original poster, nothing I did could fix it. It's probably due to dropped frames in the original video and/or a poor conversion. In my case it was of a very poor TV capture of a show not available on DVD (believe it or not, there are such shows) and no longer being broadcast, so I just had to give up. Every sync problem isn't fixable.
