SMR is a release group and also the name of the codec that group uses to encode their movies. In short, SMR downloads other group's releases and then encodes them in their codec, which greatly reduces the size at the expense of quality as well as compatibility on dvd players. In their own defense, SMR the group has released some movies in other formats as well.

There are numerous release groups that release movies in various formats. If you would like more info about what movies get released and when then you should visit www.isonews.com.
