  1. Hey guys my Toshiba laptop cursor just moves on its own up to the upper right hand corner of the screen and to use my laptop I have to keep fighting with it to get the cursor to go where I want to. Now is this an external problem or an internal problem? Does anybody know a solution to this?

    Thanks
    Tim

Is this with an external mouse and the internal pointer moving program? (Touch pad or other system)
If it does it with both, especially when only one is selected and the other disconnected, it may be a driver problem.

If it does this with just a external mouse, then try a different one. A USB mouse can be problematic at times, try a PS2 mouse instead.

You could check your mouse or touch pad settings and drivers in the Control Panel. Touch pad or other internal cursor programs are added to a laptop. You can get updated or replacement programs from the laptop manufacturer. The external mouse program is usually part of the OS, but you can probably uninstall it and let Windows re-install it with a re-boot.

I have also had this happen when the video driver gets messed up. Then the OS has a hard time displaying the cursor position properly.

It should have probably been PS/2 mouse. That's the MS name of the standard mouse connection using a Din 6 connector:

    (At the computer)

6 PIN MINI-DIN FEMALE (PS/2 STYLE) at the computer.

    Pin Name Dir Description
    1 DATA IN/OUT Key Data
    2 n/c - Not connected
    3 GND ------ Ground
    4 VCC OUT Power , +5 VDC
    5 CLK OUT Clock
    6 n/c - Not connected

Note: Direction is Computer relative Mouse/Keyboard.

  7. If it is the stick (the pencil eraser thing in the middle of the keyboard), it happens to me quite a lot. That's been the case on three different Thinkpads and two Dells.

I disabled my touchpad and got a wireless mouse when my touchpad started using the force and moving my cursor if my hands got to near it. If you can go external, just disable it.

Yeah, I didn't know that the PS2 had a mouse either. Not even the PS3 nor the Wii come with one.

Actually, the last 6 that I bought from various mfrs had a ps/2 connector.

  9. Delete your mouse driver & reinstall it.
