I am uploading dvd's to my pc, uploading them to internet and sending them to people.

I convert .vob to .avi or .mpeg (both seem to be around the same sort of size). Is this the right format to use?

My uploads take hours - 422mb is taking 7hrs with 4 still to go, 222mb ish takes 2hrs at most but some files take much longer.
All my dvd's are in parts usually 4 there is one which is over 1gb when converted, I can't upload over 1gb so was wonderign what I should do.

Am I doing it right? I use NERO to copy DVD to DVD and DVD Decrypter to copy to PC then cinemaforge to convert. DivX doesn't want to work on this PC

What are you trying to accomplish here? DVDs are big - 4 - 8 GB mostly, really not suited for Internet distribution.
DivX/XviD AVI is better, or maybe wmv.

the most one of my DVD's is is 3GB. Each part usually converts to "00-300mb which is fine but some seem to take ages to upload with megaupload or sendspace

at work a business connection whatever that maybe all I know is that it's fast.
    Parents - 1 pc on 2gb I think
Home - 4 PCs using the same connection to this one is really slow

All of the free upload services are over burdened with pirate activity, so don't expect them to as fast as your connection. Work connections, while they may appear fast, are shared, often between many hundreds of users. They also often have Quality of Service settings that ensure an even go to all users, or priority to certain applications. Uploading video to free file share services probably does not count as a priority application.

Reminds me of the expression "like sucking a golf ball through a garden hose". Movies/DVD's are HUGE amounts of data....period. Royal Mail is faster and probably cheaper in the long run.
